Gardonne – a pretty little town
The pretty little town of Gardonne is found on the banks of the River Dordogne, in the department of the same name, in south-west France. Being close to Bergerac (some 10 kilometres only in distance) Gardonne offers a great opportunity to have a rural, tranquil base, yet have excellent access to a large town with all amenities.

All basic needs met!
Gardonne is a small town, so don't expect designer clothes shops and hypermarkets, but all basic needs can be met within the town's limits. There is a small general store, a post office, a bank, a petrol station and a pharmacy. If you do need more, Bergerac with all its modern facilities is only a stone's throw away.

Wining and dining
There are lots of great bars and restaurants in Bergerac, so eating out and socialising are definitely on the agenda, but if you can't be bothered to travel even that short distance, Gardonne has a pizzeria, just the ticket for those lazy summer evenings when it's too hot to stand in the kitchen and cook!

Getting sporty in and around Gardonne
The Dordogne department is certainly well equipped with all manner of sports and leisure activities, so take your pick from golf, bowling, petanque, archery, tai chi, horse-riding, swimming, tennis, walking, cycling or fishing. If all this has left you feeling a little tired, pick yourself up with a Thassalotherapy treatment, also available locally! Then of course, you could visit the wine estates and try the product (in moderation, of course... at least until you get home!) or enjoy a leisurely boat trip down the river.

Out and about
There are lots of wonderful places to visit in the region, and Gardonne is well placed for discovering the pretty towns and villages and countryside for which the Dordogne is famed and loved. Take a look at Sarlat la Caneda, the town that is so charming and historic it has twice been used as a film set... or perhaps, the bustling bastide market town of Eymet is more to your taste. Whatever you choose today, there will be more delights to discover tomorrow… and the next day!

How to get there
Gardonne is easily accessed from the UK, as Bergerac has an airport with flights from discount airlines Ryanair and flybe. Bordeaux is also within reach, and is served by British Airways, bmibaby, Aer Lingus and easyJet. There is a railway station in the town too, so you can travel by Eurostar to Paris, then TGV to Bergerac and link to a local train for the last part of the journey.

Property prices and availability in and around Gardonne
The Dordogne has long been popular with foreign buyers, especially British, so competition has pushed prices up to a high level in comparison with many less sought after areas of France. There are advantages though, to all this, as the area is so popular that rental values are high, and should you need to sell your property in the future there should be no shortage of buyers, if current trends continue.
