Le Buisson de Cadouin – a charming rural town
Le Buisson de Cadouin is a charming rural town that is set in the Dordogne department of south-west France. Although it is classed as one town, it is actually made up of several small villages, which have merged over many years to form the thriving community that is now known as Le Buisson de Cadouin. Set on the borders of two of the most beautiful areas in the region, the Purple Perigord and the Black Perigord, and surrounded by historic bastide towns, Le Buisson de Cadouin makes an ideal base for exploring this lovely part of France.

Shopping and services
Le Buisson de Cadouin has plenty of small shops and useful services (doctors, banks, schools etc), with large supermarkets found in nearby towns. There are weekly markets where you can buy fresh local produce, and, of course, wines from the wine estates and vineyards that cover so much of the landscape. In the summer the town puts on a series of enchanting night markets, and these offer arts and crafts, wine tasting and cheeses from local "fromageries".

What to see and do
Le Buisson is a peaceful village with a rural atmosphere, except, perhaps on market days when the pace of life hots up a little! In Le Buisson you can find a good choice of cafés, bars and restaurants. Cadouin meanwhile is particularly pretty, with a lovely old market square and a superb 12th century abbey. Around and about there are many interesting places to see, with bastide towns, wine estates and the glorious countryside of the Perigord all at your disposal. There are plenty of events to enjoy too, with the villages hosting fêtes at various times during the year.

Grottoes
Le Buisson de Cadouin is known for its prehistoric sites, and the caves of Maxange are certainly well worth a visit, with centuries old stalactites and amazing rock formations. The caves are open to the public, and the site also offers a children's play area to keep the kids happy, as well as a reception centre and gift shop where you can purchase mementos of the experience.

Sports
France is a great sporting nation, and there is hardly a town or village in the country that doesn't offer some sports facilities. Le Buisson de Cadouin is no exception and has a number of sports clubs that you can join. The area also offers the chance to try horse-riding, canoeing, walking, cycling, tennis and golf.

How to get there
There are airports at Bergerac and Bordeaux which offer a selection of airlines and destination points from the UK. Bordeaux is served by British Airways, bmibaby, Aer Lingus, easyJet and flybe, while Bergerac is served by flybe and Ryanair. There is also a new airport due to open at Brive la Gaillard, which may be useful. Rail travel is also a good choice, with the TGV stopping at Libourne in about four hours from Paris. From Libourne you can link to local services to Le Buisson de Cadouin itself, as there is a train station in the town.

Property prices and availability in and around Le Buisson de Cadouin
Prices in the region tend to be high, as it is very popular, especially with British buyers. That said, it is still possible to find bargains in and around Le Buisson de Cadouin, and there are some excellent properties on the market at the time of writing.
