Wonderful Wednesdays
Wednesday is market day in Montpon Ménestérol, and it's a great day to be in town. Watch as the stall holders set up their wares, and be sure to hang around as the traditional French street market transforms the town from its workaday self to a kaleidoscope of colours, scents and sounds. It's a great place to buy your fruit and veg too, and cheeses, wines, clothes, tablecloths, olives... in fact, there is very little that you can't find in a French market!

Montpon Ménestérol offers all the shops and services you could wish for, with a selection of characterful French local shops such as artisan bakers and wine merchants and also large supermarkets for those all encompassing weekly trolley dashes. There are schools, doctors, dentists, libraries, petrol stations and hairdressers... and if by any chance you do need more, the lovely city of Bergerac is close at hand.

Wining and dining
There are no shortages of places to wine and dine in Montpon, perhaps as you would expect in this famous wine region of France. The town has some excellent restaurants, and there is even one that is recognised by the prestigious Michelin guide. All the restaurants serve the superb local wines from Bergerac and Bordeaux, and gastronomic specialities from the region include the tasty cepes, a type of mushroom, and the rich, if controversial, treat of Foie Gras.

Out and about
The Dordogne is deservedly one of France's most beloved areas, and it isn't hard to see why. All around you are gorgeous villages and towns, beautiful countryside, well tended vineyards, cool, dark forests and sparkling rivers... and here beside Montpon Ménestérol you have some of the very best that the Dordogne can offer. The Forest Double is on your doorstep, as is the River Isle, and casting your net a little wider will bring you to the city of Bergerac, or to the lovely towns of Ribérac or Sarlat la Canéda.

How to get there
It's easy to get to Montpon Ménestérol from the UK. The airport of Bergerac is the nearest, and flights from the UK are available with either Ryanair or flybe. Bordeaux is also within reach, being served by British Airways, bmibaby, Aer Lingus and easyJet. Train travel is possible with TGV stations at Angoulême and Libourne, just take the Eurostar from Waterloo and change at Paris. From Angoulême and Libourne you can then connect to a local train to Montpon Ménestérol itself. If you are driving, take the A89 motorway.
