Mussidan – a lively market town
Mussidan is a lively and lovely market town that is situated in the Dordogne department of south-western France. With a thriving economy springing from wine and agriculture, Mussidan has excellent facilities and a perfect location, benefiting from the sunshine of the south, the affluence of Bordeaux and the gorgeous landscapes of the Dordogne.

Farmer's market
Saturday is market day in Mussidan, and what a market this is. Unlike some, where stallholders sell produce that they have purchased to sell on at a profit, Mussidan market is notable for having a high proportion of stalls that are manned by the farmers and producers themselves, selling their own fresher than fresh produce. There's no better way to buy your fruit, veg, eggs, cheese and meat.

Supermarkets, shops and services
Mussidan offers a choice of three big supermarkets as well as a range of small local shops providing for all your day to day requirements. The town also has a post office, a petrol station and a very useful tourist office which can tell you about local events and places of interest. There is health care, with an English speaking doctor (great for those who haven't quite achieved fluency in French!) and various other services.

Dining in Mussidan
For sheer pleasure, Mussidan is also pleased to present you with a superb choice of very good restaurants, all of which are keen to showcase the wonderful and acclaimed gastronomy of the south-west.

Out and about
Mussidan is a great place for keen sportsmen and women, and for kids who enjoy the great outdoors too! Close to the town are several beautiful lakes where you can fish for carp, or swim and sail, perhaps try your hand at canoeing or simply potter about in a pedalo. Mussidan has tennis courts, horse-riding centres, wonderful walking trails and easy access to a good golf course.

How to get there
You can fly to the airport of Bergerac or to Bordeaux, with a good choice of direct flights from the UK. Bergerac is served by flybe and Ryanair, while Bordeaux is served by British Airways, flybe, bmibaby, Aer Lingus and easyJet. Train travel is possible with TGV stations at Angoulême and Libourne, allowing you to take the Eurostar from Waterloo and change at Paris. Once you arrive at the TGV stop, you can take a local link to Mussidan, as it has its own railway station. If you are driving, take the A89 motorway and you will find Mussidan close by.

Property prices and availability in and around Mussidan
Generally the Dordogne is considered to be a little on the expensive side, as it has become very popular with overseas buyers. Whilst it is fair to say that there are cheaper parts of France for property, the Dordogne is often not as pricey as you might think, and there can still be some excellent bargains to be found. Take a look at what's on the market at the moment... you could be very pleasantly surprised.
