Popular market town
Piégut-Pluviers or Piegut Pluviers is a popular market town situated in the north of the beautiful green Dordogne department of south-west France. The area is vastly popular with British buyers, and it is not hard to understand why, as this region seems to offer everything we hope for when we dream of moving to start a new life in France. Piégut-Pluviers has an outstanding weekly market, pretty streets and houses, all modern amenities and lies in glorious countryside. To top it all, the town is close to a number of airports which offer cheap flights to and from the UK. No wonder it is popular!

The garden of France
Sometimes referred to as the green garden of France, the northern Dordogne is blessed with verdant greenery both in its fields and meadows and in the trees and plants which line the many rivers and lakes of the region. For nature lovers, the environs of Piégut-Pluviers are a paradise, with many well marked walking trails and nature reserves.

An attractive town with the best market in France... probably!
The town of Piégut-Pluviers has a market in the town every Wednesday. One of the largest in the region, you can find stalls offering all manner of goods from fashion, antiques, household goods and pottery through to the best and freshest of local produce and luxury food items such as the Foie Gras for which the area is famous. The market of Piégut-Pluviers is said to be one of the very best of its kind in the whole of France, so don't miss your chance to see it for yourself.

About town
As well as its market, Piégut-Pluviers has a good selection of small shops and a supermarket too, so you don't have to wait for Wednesdays to go shopping! Those who enjoy dining out can also take their choice of a few good restaurants found within the town. If you want to take in a little history, have a look at the Tower of Piégut, built for Richard the Lionheart in 1199, with its intriguing circular “donjon”.

Swimming, lakes and conkers!
If you are looking for some sporting activities, whether your tastes run to the popular (swimming, fishing, golf) or the more unusual (conkers championships!) then the chances are that you will find something to please you in and around Piégut-Pluviers. Many activities are available in or very near to the town, and the local countryside is excellent for the simple pleasures afforded by so called “green tourism”... walking, cycling and horse-riding.

How to get there
To reach Piégut-Pluviers from the UK is very easy. The town is in an area which is popular with English visitors and property seekers, and there are a number of airports around which offer direct flights. Choose to fly to Limoges or Bergerac with Ryanair and flybe, or to Bordeaux with British Airways, flybe, bmibaby, Aer Lingus and easyJet. If you prefer to travel by train, the TGV goes to Bordeaux, so it is possible to take Eurostar from Waterloo, change to TGV at Paris or Lille, then travel to Bordeaux on the super fast train.

Property prices and availability in and around Piégut-Pluviers
As the Dordogne is very popular with overseas property seekers, the area tends to be more expensive then other parts of France, such as the Limousin. The northern Dordogne, however, tends to offer more bargain properties than the south, so it is possible to find a great place at a keen price if you keep your eyes open.
