Ribérac – a market town in the White Perigord
The town of Ribérac is a lovely traditional market town which lies in the White Perigord region of the Dordogne department in western France. This region is named for the white limestone which is quarried in the area, and which has provided the building material for the beautiful white Romanesque churches which dot the landscapes and for which the area is noted.

One of the finest markets in the Dordogne
Ribérac is said to have the largest, and possibly the finest market in the Dordogne. This takes place on a Friday morning, and it seems as though the entire town is there, shopping basket in hand, to catch the best of the bargains, the freshest of the fresh produce, and to gossip and catch up on local news. The essence of a French market is captured here... don't miss it! In the summer months the town also hosts a number of delightful night markets. These provide an opportunity to taste local wines and cheeses, to purchase arts and crafts and to simply stroll and enjoy the magical ambience that such an affair creates.

Facilities on offer
Ribérac has two supermarkets, Le Clerc and Intermarché, and other facilities such as banks and health care to ensure that life here is as easy as you could wish.

Romantic dining
Ribérac is a charming town, typical of its area. It has cool, shady streets lined with spreading plane trees, and a central square with plenty of attractive cafés and restaurants where you can sit at the pavement tables and enjoy the excellent fare. On summer evenings it is common practice for musicians to play in the open air, and this makes for a romantic dining experience you are sure to cherish.

Out and about
The Perigord Blanc is perhaps the prettiest area of the Dordogne, and well worth a little time to explore. With its Romanesque churches and pretty historic villages, the region is full of interest and charm. Hire a bicycle to really enjoy the countryside, and stop off at a little café for refreshment in time honoured French fashion, between the hours of twelve and two. There will be no shops open anyway, as the French take lunch time very seriously here! Other than cycle hire which is available in Ribérac, you can also enjoy horse-riding, tennis, swimming, fishing and golf locally.

How to get there
To reach Ribérac from the UK is a simple matter. The airport of Bergerac is the nearest, and flights from the UK are available with either Ryanair or flybe. Also accessible is Bordeaux, served by British airways, flybe, bmibaby, Aer Lingus and easyJet. Train travel is possible with TGV stations at Angoulême and Libourne, and all you have to do is take Eurostar from Waterloo and change at Paris.

Property prices and availability in and around Ribérac
The Dordogne is a popular area for foreign property buyers, and the number of these (particularly Brits), seeking property in this area has pushed prices up. This part of the Dordogne, however, tends to offer better value than the southern parts, so if you have your heart set on a property in this lovely department, Ribérac could be good place to start the search.
