The town of Pineuilh is an elegant town that lies in a superb location on the banks of the beautiful River Dordogne in south-west France. Steeped in history
Pineuilh is steeped in history, with plenty of interesting and important features to discover. In fact, it is thought that the origins of this town actually date back even further, into pre-history, as archaeological discoveries suggest. The historical sites worth visiting in Pineuilh include the Gothic church, many architecturally interesting buildings and a natural history museum. Nearby the fine bastide town of Ste Foy la Grande is certainly worth seeing, and offers a further taste of the history of the area.

Good facilities
Pineuilh is a large town that offers all the usual shops, services and other facilities. The region is noted for both its wines and its gastronomy, so it is not surprising that the town also has a number of excellent restaurants and wine merchants, allowing you to further discover and enjoy the riches of the Gironde.

Sports and leisure
There are very few sports that can't be found in or near the town. All the usual facilities are to hand, including tennis courts, football clubs, golf courses and swimming pools. The area close to Pineuilh also affords the possibility of lovely riverside walks, great cycling, horse-riding and driving in some of the most picturesque countryside in south-west France. Then there are boat trips on the Dordogne River too, these being a wonderful way to discover the area.

Visit Bergerac, Bordeaux, St Emilion... the list of great wine towns and famous names is endless. Try the fabulous wines of the region close to the vineyards in which the grapes were grown, and enjoy the fascinating wildlife found on the Gironde Estuary and on that unique stretch of the Atlantic coast. The town is sited on the edge of the Dordogne too, so there is another department to discover right on your doorstep.

How to get there
Bordeaux and Bergerac airports have a selection of direct flights from the UK, and are both near enough to make air travel a simple matter. Bordeaux is served by British Airways, bmibaby, Aer Lingus, easyJet and flybe, while Bergerac is served by flybe and Ryanair. If you prefer travelling by train, the efficient TGV runs to Bordeaux and Libourne, from where you can then connect to a local train to get nearer to Pineuilh. This makes train travel a great alternative to flying, as you can make almost the entire journey by rail beginning with Eurostar to Paris. If you are driving you will find Pineuilh not far from the A89 and N21.

Property prices and availability in and around Pineuilh
The Gironde is generally a fairly expensive department, as it has long been a desirable destination for many nationalities as well as for the French themselves. There are still some bargains to be found in and around Pineuilh however, and a property here represents good value in comparison with Bordeaux, while still offering easy access.
