Great for shopping
The town is attractive and well equipped, with plenty of shops and other amenities. There are banks, libraries, schools and sports facilities, so there is little need to leave the town unless you want to. The atmosphere in town is lively and yet retains the charm of an authentic French market town.

Families will find that Aire sur l'Adour is ideal for young children, and there is an attractive park in the centre of town with safe play and picnic areas. Sights worth seeing... and a load of bulls...
The Cathedral of Jean-Baptiste is an impressive sight, and also worth a visit is the old church with its massive crypt. Aire sur l'Adour has an architecturally interesting Halle aux Grains, but probably the most fascinating place in town... or the worst, depending on your point of view, is the amphitheatre where the bullfighting takes place.

Traditionally, bullfighting is important in this area. The town of Aire sur l'Adour has a permanent bullring and also hosts Course Landaise, and a full Corrida with mature bulls. People have differing feelings about bullfighting, of course, but it is important to be aware that it is very popular here.

Out and about
The Landes, despite being a rural department, offers plenty of opportunities to entertain yourself! From the usual pursuits of horse-riding (there is an equestrian centre in the town), tennis, walking, cycling and fishing, to the less usual of motor racing... the area has it all. Motor racing fans will enjoy a visit to nearby Nogaro, which hosts various events throughout the year, including some interesting pre-season testing, which offers a chance to see some successful riders and drivers at close quarters. Interesting places to visit include Mont-de-Marsan and Pau. You can also reach the Atlantic coast easily from Aire sur l'Adour.

How to get there
You can fly to Pau, Biarritz or to Bordeaux. These airports are served variously by British Airways, Aer Lingus, easyJet, flybe, bmibaby and Ryanair. Rail travel is another possibility, as the superfast TGV runs to Bayonne, Bordeaux, Biarritz and Toulouse, from where you can catch linking trains to your destination.
