Agen lies in a strategic position
The town of Agen, situated in the south-west of France, lies in a very important strategic position between the cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse. This makes it both easily accessible from the UK and also an ideal base for anyone involved in business between these two major cities of the south-west.

Parallel waterways
Agen has two important waterways that run parallel to each other... the Canal du Midi that links the Atlantic to the Med. and the massive River Garonne. These twin waterways create a lovely ambience, and there are lots of gaily coloured barges and other craft to see, especially in the summer months.

Agen is well equipped and well placed!
Agen, being a large and thriving commercial centre, is a very well equipped town which can supply everything you could need. There are excellent shops, restaurants, bars, cafés, banks, schools hospitals, theatres and museums, to name just a few. Tourism does figure, but the commercial life of the town is more significant, although Agen is none the less appealing for this. If you are seeking a property around which to base your holidays, the town makes a great location for this as it has superb travel links to the rest of the country as well as to Spain and the rest of south-west France.

Gastronomic delights
Agen takes its place in history as the centre for the production of the prune, that delicious dried plum that features so heavily in the glorious cuisine of the south-west. It is worth going to the town just to sample some of the wonderful incarnations of this fruit that proliferate here. Taste, for example, the prune stuffed with prune purée, or prunes served with roasted duck, or... well, don't take my word for it… go and eat! There are lots of excellent locally produced wines to sample too, including a dark, strong red such as that produced in nearby Cahors, which makes a perfect partner for the rich cuisine of Agen.

Sports and leisure in Agen
You can take a day trip on the river or the canal, or just enjoy a walk along the river banks or canal tow paths. There are lots of activities available in the town, with sports centres, swimming etc... and then there are all the opportunities for sport that are offered in the surrounding countryside. You don't have to travel far to find horse-riding, golf, fishing, cycling and much, much more.

How to get there
Agen is easily accessible from the UK thanks to the airports of Bordeaux, Bergerac and Toulouse, which offer a variety of flights and airlines and are within a relatively short drive of the town. Bordeaux is served by British Airways, bmibaby, Aer Lingus and easyJet; Bergerac by flybe and Ryanair; and Toulouse by British Airways, easyJet, bmi and Jet2. The TGV makes another great option, as there is a TGV station in Agen itself.

Property prices and availability in and around Agen
Property in and around Agen can be on the pricey side, largely because of the town's excellent location that makes it popular with business people as well as with those seeking a residence in an attractive part of the south-west. Having said that, however it is very possible to find a bargain here if you are prepared to look diligently and act quickly.
