Miramont de Guyenne – a pretty bastide town
Miramont de Guyenne, which is situated in the Lot-et-Garonne department of south-west France, is a pretty bastide town with a typical, lovely arcaded central square. Sadly, much of the old town was destroyed during the terrible fighting in the Hundred Years War, but some buildings remain, and the town is nevertheless a very attractive and lively place with a great atmosphere.

There are supermarkets, shops, banks, bars and restaurants as well as doctors, schools and all necessities. The town's tourist office will help you to find everything you need as well as pointing you towards learning about the intriguing history of Miramont and the region. Don't miss the Monday morning market either, because it is reputed to be one of the best in the area... and in this part of France that means it is very, very good indeed!

Miramont de Guyenne has plenty of sporting and leisure activities for you to try. Close to the town there is the Lake Saut de Loop, where there are lots of pedaloes, canoes and kayaks, as well as beautiful scenery and opportunities to play tennis, petanque and to cycle. Nearby you can also go horse-riding, and for golf addicts there is a truly superb course within about a 30-minute drive, at Château des Vigiers.
Lovers of French culture will also enjoy the many lively street festivals that take place in the town during the summer months.

Out and about
The great location of the town means that there are many possibilities open to you if you want to get out and about. Visiting Bordeaux and Toulouse is a must. These fantastic French cities deserve exploring to the full, and even then you will want to return again and again, I guarantee! There are lots of attractive local towns to see, such as Eymet, and even the Atlantic coast and Spain are within reasonable travelling distance.

How to get there
Miramont de Guyenne is easily accessed from the UK, as there are airports at nearby Bergerac and also at Bordeaux and Toulouse. Bergerac is served by Ryanair and flybe; Toulouse by British Airways, bmi, easyJet and Jet2; and Bordeaux by British Airways, bmibaby, Aer Lingus and easyJet. There is a railway station at nearby Marmande, and travelling by road is another easy option, as you can find the RD933 from the main road from Bordeaux to Toulouse. It may be a long journey from the UK by car, but the roads are so good that driving could be a much more pleasant and speedy experience than you may imagine.

Property prices and availability in and around Miramont de Guyenne
On the edge of the Dordogne (though actually lying in the Lot-et-Garonne), and enjoying many of the features that make that department so popular with British buyers, the property for sale in and around Miramont de Guyenne may be a little less expensive than that found in the next door department. Its location between Toulouse and Bordeaux keeps prices up, though, and it is expensive if compared with regions such as the Limousin, and parts of Poitou-Charentes. There are bargains to be had, however, for those who are canny and prepared to do a bit of work. Property available at the time of writing includes a village house that needs restoration but is for sale at less than 40,000 Euros! Try finding that in the UK!
