For buying and selling property in Landeleau
Landeleau is a picturesque Breton village, set within an hour of the Finistère coast in lovely countryside. Close to historic sights and tourist attractions, yet tranquil and unspoilt, the village is characteristic of the region and exerts a delightful old world charm. The River Aulne which flows nearby, is beloved of fishermen, while the village itself has some historic and interesting features.
The village offers pleasant and useful local amenities, with a boulangerie (providing those essential French delights of fresh baguettes, croissants and galettes), bars, a restaurant and a crêperie. The town also has a doctor's and a treatment centre taking care of everyday health needs. Greater facilities can be found in the nearby town of Carhaix Plouguer and Châteauneuf du Faou, where you can find supermarkets, cultural centres, entertainment, markets and services such as vets, dentists, pharmacies and more.
The old village is worth exploring, as although it may not feature in many guides as a heritage site, there are some lovely original features. Among these are the village church, the Gothic styled Saint Thelo Church, an ancient stone dolmen, a 16th century chapel, a 14th century presbytery and, of course, the mighty oak tree, St Thélo's Oak.
The River Aulne which skirts the edge of the village offers more than just its beauty, as it is known for great fishing, but do check with the Mairie or the Office of Tourism to discover what permits may be needed. Many outdoor sports are available locally, with horse-riding stables nearby in addition to lovely walking and cycling routes. The village is sometimes on the route of the Tour de France, so cyclists can follow in the wheel tracks of their heroes. Meanwhile the Finistère coast is within an hour's drive, while the fascinating megalithic site of Carnac is another attraction of the locality.
The nearest airports are found at Brest, Rennes and Dinard, all offering direct flights from the UK. Flybe, Ryanair and Aurigny serve one or other of these airports. The nearest ferry port is Roscoff, while drivers can find the town close to the big national road, the N164.
Prices around Landeleau are usually among the lowest in Brittany, as is the case with much of Finistère, the department being less known to the mass market than Morbihan, Côtes-d'Armor or Ille-et-Vilaine. It's a great place to bag a bargain, or to make your dream of owning property in Brittany come true, even on a limited budget.
