For buying and selling property in Pailhès
Pailhès is a picturesque mediaeval village which sits under the southern French sun in the middle of the prolific vineyards of the Hérault department in Languedoc Roussillon. Traditional in aspect and attitude, Pailhès is utterly peaceful and full of charm, yet is close enough to the lively resorts of the Mediterranean, the historic cities of this Cathar region, and within sight and reach of the ski resorts of the Pyrénéan Mountains. From the aromatic "garrigue" to the dramatic gorges and lush river valleys, the countryside of the area is the stuff of dreams.
Pailhès is a small village, with just 462 inhabitants, but it manages to retain a distinctive character. It isn't the place for those who want a frenetic lifestyle, as life here moves with the sun and the seasons, and there is little to find in terms of shopping or entertainment, although a good restaurant has opened in the village recently. However, if the sleepy pleasures of Pailhès aren't enough for you (and they include pretty, stone houses, ancient streets, a shady square and a sense of history) you will find it is a simple matter to reach the facilities of larger villages and the busy city of Béziers.
The Hérault, and indeed, Pailhès, is very fortunately located, in a part of France which combines almost all of the very best things about French life. Here you have access to the beaches of the Med (around half an hour away); the wineries and vineyards of the Languedoc; the wild beauty of spectacular gorges that so spectacularly split the foothills of the region's mountains; historic and beautiful cities, steeped in the legends and mysteries of the Cathar Knights; and almost endless sunshine.
Provence lies to the east and Spain to the west... so you will never be short of places to go and things to do. It's a great area for outdoor activities and adventure sports, and some which are particularly popular are kayaking, rock climbing, canyoning and hill walking.
The nearest airport is situated at Béziers, which offers direct flights from the UK with budget airline Ryanair. Other airports which could be used to access Pailhès include Carcassonne and Montpellier, while the train can take you to any of the foregoing cities. The A9 auto route is the one to follow to access the area, with Pailhès lying close to the D909.
Hérault property isn't usually amongst the cheapest in the country, but neither are prices as inflated as those found in Provence. The area is popular with holidaymakers, although remaining unspoiled and authentic, so rental values in pretty villages such as Pailhès can be very good.
