Dun le Palestel – an attractive market town
Dun le Palestel, which is located in the south-western part of central France in the Limousin region, is a very attractive market town that has attracted a good few British buyers with its peaceful traditional way of life, its thriving economy, its friendly atmosphere and its beautiful setting in the lovely green heart of France.
|
Excellent market
The Thursday morning market in Dun le Palestel is said by many to be one of the region's finest. It is certainly worth getting out of bed a little earlier than usual to get down to the market when it is at its best and before all the freshest of the excellent local produce has been sold! Don't just expect just fruit and veg to be on offer either, a good French market such as this will have all kinds of everything up for grabs, so take a large basket!

Shops and amenities in Dun le Palestel
This little town is a hive of activity, so don't be fooled by its meek, traditional appearance. There are most modern facilities here and a good range of shops and leisure activities too. An Intermarche supermarket supplies most everyday requirements, and there is even a restaurant for those evenings when you just can't be bothered to cook… or indeed, for an indulgent and very French long lunch!
|
Out and about
The beautiful, peaceful countryside of the Creuse makes a perfect setting for a number of activities, with cycling, walking and horse-riding understandably popular. The area also offers the chance to fish and swim in the many lovely lakes and rivers, to play tennis, and of course, to try your hand at the quintessentially French game of Petanque. Places to visit near Dun le Palestel include the picturesque Éguzon Gorge, the departmental capital of Guéret, and Aubusson, the carpet weaving capital! There is also Lake Éguzon, which is not only a beauty spot for picnics and walking, but also a water sports centre par excellence!
|
How to get there
The airports of Limoges and Poitiers are both served by budget airline Ryanair with flybe also flying to Limoges. The train stations at La Souterraine and Guéret make rail travel a possibility, as you can take the Eurostar to Paris, change to a TGV to Angoulême or Poitiers, and then continue by local train to La Souterraine or Guéret.
