The coast is ever near, with stunning towns such as Mont St Michel, great beaches like that found at Saint Cast le Guildo, the chic and lively resort town of Deauville, and historic Bayeux, home of the famous tapestry.

Sporting opportunities locally include golf, with a good 18-hole course very close to the town at Vire and another at Breville sur Mer.

How to get there

To travel to the area from the UK by air you can fly into Dinard or Rennes in nearby Brittany. Caen and Deauville airports are closer but currently do not have direct flights to/from the UK. Dinard is served by Aurigny and Ryanair, and Rennes by Flybe. Should you prefer to take the ferry, the port of Caen is the closest, with Cherbourg not too far away. Drivers can find Saint Sever close to the D524. The nearest major road is the A84 auto route.
