Pont de l'Arche – an historic town
The town of Pont de l'Arche, which is found in the central north of France in the Eure department of Upper Normandy, is a rather beautiful historic town, originally built to withstand Viking invaders in around 862 AD. Its fascinating history continued, and it became a major player in the conflict between the English and the French that so dominated the Middle Ages. The town lies on the confluence of the Rivers Seine and Eure, giving it a geographically strategic location, as well as a picturesque one in the lovely Norman countryside.

Splendid architecture
Pont de l'Arche is architecturally beautiful, and you can gainfully spend a lot of time simply walking around the town enjoying the lovely buildings (many of which are in the old Norman style with external timber work), and the fabulous sculpture on the churches. The old cobbled streets add a quaint mediaeval charm, and the town also offers plenty of refreshing green spaces with trees and flowers offset perfectly against the blue summer skies.

A rich cultural and sporting life
Pont de l'Arche is culturally rich as well as rich in history, and there is always plenty to see and do in town. There are theatrical events, art exhibitions, concerts and seasonal music festivals to enjoy. Cultural and sporting pursuits are an important part of the community in Pont de l'Arche, and young people especially are encouraged to join clubs and get involved, whether it be to play tennis, to take music lessons or to attend the festivals. There are numerous sporting opportunities in and near the town, with some lovely riverside walks and sports clubs including basketball, rugby, swimming, yoga and more.

Shopping and dining
The town has some very appealing shops, often in period buildings which only serve to enhance their charms. All the usual French delights are present, including boulangeries, patisseries, boucheries, tabacs and, of course, the essential hairdressing shops that no self respecting French town can be without! There are several banks too, and plenty of service industries to keep life running smoothly. Pont de l'Arche is also well equipped with some lovely restaurants where the local and delicious specialities are served along with wines, cider and Calvados brandy.

Normandy is at your disposal, and the region offers some of the most intriguing history and the loveliest countryside in France, but it's not just Normandy. As the town of Pont de l'Arche lies in the south of Normandy, the wonderful and romantic city of Paris is also close at hand, with all its art, history, culture, pleasures and atmosphere.

How to get there
If you want to fly, Paris is the best place to head for as you will find a good choice of airlines and departure airports for this destination, and it is easily accessible from Pont de l'Arche too. Paris Charles de Gaulle is served by Air France, British Airways, bmi, bmibaby, flybe, easyJet, Jet2, Thomsonfly and Aer Lingus. It is also possible to take a ferry to any of the Normandy ports, all of which are within reach, or to travel by car or train through the channel tunnel. The town is located from the A13 auto route.

Property prices and availability in and around Pont de l'Arche
Pont de l'Arche is near enough to Paris to find that property prices rise accordingly, but it is still possible to find reasonably priced quality property for sale here, unlike in the capital itself where everything seems to cost and arm and a leg! It is currently possible, for example, to purchase a beautiful traditional Norman house, very large and in superb condition, on the River Seine, for just over 300,000 Euros. All that, and less than an hour away from Paris!
