Saint Hilaire du Harcouet is an attractive and historical market town which is situated in the Manche department of Lower Normandy in northern France. The location of the town, close to the coast and the stunning island town of Mont St Michel, makes it an ideal base for holidays or simply for accessing all the best attractions of the region.
The town is a bustling place with plenty of amenities and a good few historic sights to boot. Shops and supermarkets provide the necessities of life, while the Wednesday market offers a traditional take on shopping. There are also restaurants and bars where relaxation time can be spent and the local goodies tasted. More active leisure time might be spent in the very good indoor pool, while there is also a cinema for film fans to enjoy.
Many sports and other leisure activities can be found in or near to the town, with horse-riding, golf, fishing and even polo and trotter racing all taking place! Saint Hilaire also hosts a number of cultural events which are held throughout the year. Sights include the Neo Gothic Church of Saint Hilaire, the gateway to the old fortress, a monastery chapel and a lovely public garden.
The area around Saint Hilaire is so rich in things to do and see that you will never be at a loss. The most famous of all Normandy's sights is just around the corner, Mont St Michel, the amazingly beautiful island town that rises out of the sea like something from a fairytale. The many lovely beaches and resorts of the Normandy coast are all close at hand too, with super sophisticated towns such as Deauville, Trouville and Granville offering up the chicest of seaside fun.
If you want to fly, the places to head for are Rennes and Dinard, both of which have direct flights from the UK. Dinard is served by Ryanair and Aurigny, while Rennes is served by Flybe.
