Les Sables d'Olonne - all the fun of the seaside
Les Sables D'Olonne is a great seaside resort that is located in the Vendée department in the west of France, on a fabulous stretch of Atlantic coastline. With superb sandy beaches, a variety of water sports and endless entertainment all close to hand, the resort is massively popular with both holiday makers and people seeking to settle in this lovely part of France.

Nautical and extremely nice...
Les Sables d'Olonne is not only a lively resort town but also a great harbour town, and yachting is its speciality. The highly prestigious yacht race, the Vendée Globe, is held in the town every four years and the harbour is a hive of nautical activity all season long. If you ever fancied learning to sail, or, if like all the nice girls, you just love the sailors, Les Sables d'Olonne is definitely the place to be!
|
All amenities and more besides
The town is extremely well equipped, and there is very little that you can name that you cannot find around town. There are good shops and supermarkets, all services such as schools and health care, and even history and culture with an old priory, a tower, a shell museum and a modern art gallery to explore.

Lively and fun
The resort manages to be lively and full of fun without losing its appeal for families. Indeed, it is a perfect place for families with children of any age as there is bound to be something to do that will appeal to them. Teens, often so difficult to please, will never be bored with the variety of sports and evening entertainment too, as there is a bowling alley, a cinema, a good café bar scene and even discos and clubs for the older ones. Younger children will be kept busy by the children's clubs that thrive in the holiday season, or no doubt will just be happy playing on the beaches or visiting the excellent zoo. And the adults? Well, if you have any energy left after swimming, sailing, surfing and sunbathing all day long, there is a lively evening scene for you too, with excellent restaurants and buzzing bars.

Out and about
This is a wonderful region, and as long as you have access to a car you will find many interesting places to explore without having to travel too far. There is the port of La Rochelle, always worth a look, the beautiful Ile de Ré, the historic town of Fontenay le Comte... and that is to name but a few of the most obvious choices. Take your time and discover your own favourites.

How to get there
You can fly into Nantes or La Rochelle with budget airlines, making air travel simple and inexpensive. Nantes is served by Ryanair and Aer Arann, while La Rochelle is served by Ryanair, flybe and easyJet. Les Sables d'Olonne has its own railway station so the train is a good alternative method of transport. Drivers will find the resort from the D36, handily named the Route de Sables d'Olonne!

Property prices and availability in and around Les Sables d'Olonne
The coastal resorts of the west of France are usually fairly expensive, and certainly you should expect to pay a premium for property in a popular resort such as Les Sables d'Olonne. There are compensations, however, in the shape of excellent rental potential, and great rental incomes should you decide to let the property during the high season.
