Mouilleron le Captif – a popular residential town
The town of Mouilleron le Captif is a large town situated in the west of France, in the popular holiday destination of the Vendée. Situated ideally for accessing all the major attractions of the region, the town is lively and well equipped to satisfy all the needs and requirements of a modern lifestyle, whilst having an interesting history and culture. Mouilleron le Captif is much larger then its original form as its appeal and great location has led to the building of a number of modern housing estates around the old centre, thus increasing the population considerably and giving a dynamic feel to the town.

What's in a name?
It is impossible to hear the name of this town and not to wonder about its origins. Legend has it that the seigneur of Mouilleron was taken prisoner by a neighbouring lord, and forced, during his imprisonment, to humiliate himself by pushing the millstone to grind corn for his new master. Hence he became known as the "Captive Miller" and the name was soon transferred to the town.

How to get there
Mouilleron le Captif is within easy reach of several airports which offer direct flights to and from the UK. Head for La Rochelle, which offers flights with budget airline Ryanair, flybe and easyJet, or fly to Poitiers with Ryanair. Nantes is also within reach, and has flights with Ryanair and Aer Arann, while Angers is served by Eastern Airways. Poitiers has a TGV stop as well, from where you can take local services to get closer to Mouilleron le Captif, offering the possibility of train travel from the UK. Drivers will find the town located near the D937, which can be accessed from the A83.

Property prices and availability in and around Mouilleron le Captif
The Vendée is not France's cheapest area for property, as you would probably expect given its warm climate, lovely coastline and tourist attractions. However, a town such as Mouilleron le Captif offers the possibility to purchase more reasonably priced property than towns such as St Jean de Monts, while still benefiting from many of the advantages of this lovely area.
