Bernex – a mountain village of charm
Bernex is a mountain village of great charm which is located in a truly stunning setting just south of Lake Geneva in the French Alps. Perfect for anyone who loves the majesty of the mountains, the village makes a great base for holidays or full-time living, as it offers excellent facilities and superb entertainment in any season.
|
Traditional appearance
With its pretty, traditional buildings Bernex is a refreshing change from some mountain towns where tourism has taken over from taste, and where concrete blocks are found replacing pretty wooden chalets. Bernex is an authentic Savoyard village, family friendly and an ideal place to recharge your batteries away from the rat race.

It's snow time...
The scenery around Bernex is stunning when dressed in its winter whites, and there are a host of things to do that will keep everyone happy, whether or not they are keen skiers. There is good access to the slopes of course, and the ski resorts around Bernex can cater for all abilities with ski schools and easy slopes for beginners to fresh powder and fast runs for the more experienced. You can also enjoy exhilarating dog sled rides, snow shoe walking and perhaps try the many miles of cross country trails for skiers who prefer not to be hurtling down hills at breakneck speed.
|
Summer time, and the living is easy...
Winter is definitely not the only season to spend in Bernex, as summer brings its own pleasures and should not be missed. The scenery is every bit as beautiful when wearing its summer greens, and with lakes for swimming, fishing and sailing, beautiful walking and cycling trails and an equestrian centre nearby, there is at least as much to do in the warmer months as in the ski season.
|
Shops and services
Bernex has a few essential shops such as a supermarket, boulangerie and hairdresser, and of course, ski and sports hire shops too, so you can equip yourself to enjoy everything! An outdoor food market is also held weekly in Bernex, and this is the perfect place to find delicious local produce. If there is anything further you need, Evian les Bains and Thonon les Bains are close by which have more to offer in the way of shops and services.
|
Wining and dining in Bernex
The cuisine of the Savoyard region is legendary, with all its wonderful fondues and richly flavoured cheeses, so it's a bonus to find a number of restaurants in the village, including a couple located high up among the ski slopes... perfect for that well earned lunch (or a glass of Dutch courage!) in the middle of a hectic day's skiing.
|
Additional activities on offer
Bernex also has a distillery where you can take a guided tour and, of course, try the product at the end! Other things to do include access to a cinema, a well equipped children's park and a bowling alley with a restaurant for great family fun.
