Les Houches - at the foot of Mont Blanc
Les Houches is a village that can be found lying at the foot of the awe-inspiring Mont Blanc, in the French Alps. And as Les Houches actually consists of a number of small hamlets, the atmosphere and lifestyle of the village is very unspoiled and far more authentic and traditional in its architecture and ambience than in the modern, purpose built resorts, although its location means that there is still fantastic access to the very best slopes. Les Houches makes a refreshing change for those for whom a ski resort needs to be more than a collection of concrete apartment blocks with access to the slopes.

Superb skiing
Les Houches has it all, as not only is it pretty and tranquil, but it also has one of the best locations in the Alps for skiers, as it is situated right at the foot of Mont Blanc, and has access to the same slopes as the famous resorts such as Chamonix. Working on the "Ski Pass Mont Blanc", the resort has access to the Mont Blanc valley, and the skiing on offer here is superb for all levels, from beginners to experts. There are ski schools, crèches, and a multitude of snow sports as well as skiing, with opportunities to go dog sledding, snow shoeing, snow boarding and excellent off piste adventure skiing too.

Aprés ski
Yes, there is aprés ski in Les Houches, but it amounts to a collection of friendly bars and good restaurants rather than the rowdy club atmosphere of the larger resorts. If you want more "life" to your aprés ski, the resort of Chamonix, which lacks for nothing in this respect, is only a few kilometres away, and easily accessible. Meanwhile, for those seeking exactly what Les Houches has to offer, there is a good choice of places in which to enjoy this warm, welcoming and altogether gentler aprés ski.

How to get there
Les Houches is easily accessed from the UK as there are several airports within reasonable travelling distance of the town. You can fly to Chambéry with flybe, Jet2 or Astraeus; to St Étienne with Ryanair; to Lyon with Air France, British Airways, easyJet or bmi; to Grenoble with Ryanair or easyJet; or to Geneva with British Airways, Air France, Aer Lingus, easyJet, flybe or Jet2. Travelling by rail you can take a TGV to Bourg St Maurice or to Lyon. Travelling by road, the village is found only two kilometres from the A40 auto route.
