Manigod is a very pretty village at any time of year, benefiting from its stunning setting, authentic old buildings, way of life and access to superb activities and facilities. It's family-friendly, and although always lively, it is less manic than some of the larger, more purpose driven resorts. The traditional charm of Manigod village is further boosted by the fact that the pistes lead directly to and from the village. So you can ski in and ski out without having to queue for a lift, a definite plus point!

Life in the village

Manigod has good local amenities, including boulangeries, sports equipment shops, bars and restaurants. Supermarkets and larger shops can be found just ten minutes down the road in Le Grand Bornand. Manigod village also puts on various cultural events during the year. There are theatrical shows, concerts, fetes and more to enjoy.

Heritage of Manigod

Manigod is a real old Savoyard village, and there's a good bit of heritage to see of both the built and the natural variety. The 19th century Church of St Pierre, with its Baroque façade, is lovely. Then there are seven historic chapels and a clutch of old bread ovens, some fully restored. The natural heritage includes waterfalls, mountains and lakes.

Enjoy outdoor activities all year round

The sporting possibilities here are endless. Of course, the village is best known for its superb skiing, being close to La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, and in one of the most popular ski areas in France. However, it has also got fun activities in every season. You can enjoy mountain biking, rock climbing and even hot air ballooning should you decide to visit in summer.

Visit elegant Annecy and cosmopolitan Geneva

There are lots of places to visit from a base in Manigod. The elegant old town of Annecy, with its famous lake and Venetian-style canals is delightful. A trip to the cosmopolitan city of Geneva is definitely doable as a day trip, and well worth the effort. The attractive little market town of Thônes is close by and deserves a look too.

On a less ambitious scale, but equally enjoyable, the area abounds in lovely little villages and farmsteads, offering the chance to discover mountain agriculture in action. See how the acclaimed cheeses of the area are created, and buy some to take home too!

How to get there

Geneva has the nearest airport, at some 68 kilometres from Manigod. Chambéry is another option. There's a railway station at Annecy should you prefer to travel by train. Drivers can find the village from the A41, on the D16, 9 kilometres from the A41 motorway.

Property prices and availability in and around Manigod

The ski areas of the Alps are never truly cheap when it comes to property. Everyone wants to be there, so you do have to fork out a bit more money than in less popular regions. But in Manigod, it's currently possible to grab a ski studio apartment for as little as 85,000 Euros. So it may be more affordable to live the Alpine dream than you think! Of course, if money isn't an issue, then the area also offers some fabulous luxury properties.
