Megève – stylish and swish!
Megève is a long-established truly stylish resort which lies in the French Alps. This means that it continues to attract the rich and famous to enjoy its charms, despite it being situated at a lower level than many newer resorts. The chic modern facilities of a top resort are all well established in Megève, but what makes it special is that it has real mediaeval heart and true Savoyard character. The old town has lots of genuine charm, with quaint narrow cobbled streets flanked by lovely mediaeval buildings and a pretty church.

Close to Mont Blanc
The majesty of Mont Blanc is ever present in Megève, and whether or not you want to ski the mighty mountain (and there are opportunities for some superb off piste adventures for the brave and accomplished) you can still appreciate its awe inspiring beauty in all seasons. There is plenty of good skiing close to Megève with access to Combloux, Cote 2,000 and Les Cotamaines. The lower level does mean that the snow isn't quite as reliably thick as in the higher altitude resorts, but Megève has the answer with an impressive array of snow cannons ensuring that your skiing holiday will always be successful!

If you like to enjoy a sense of luxury and the finer things in life, then Megève will not disappoint. The aprés ski is excellent, with lots of lively bars, discos and gourmet restaurants where you can relive the excitement of the day with a glass in your hand and great company.

Shops galore
The extensive and exclusive shopping facilities also ensure that you can be on the slopes kitted out in the very best of fashion... even if your skiing doesn't quite live up to the look, at least you can look like a pro! The shops also provide all necessities such as groceries, hairdressers, banking facilities and so on, as well as some very appealing specialist shops where you can purchase local treats such as Savoyard foods and crafts.

Things to do
There is no shortage of things to do in Megève, whatever time of year you are there. Apart from the skiing and snowboarding (there is a superb snow park for the young and trendy to do their death defying stunts), the resort boasts an ice rink, an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, opportunities for hot air ballooning, rock climbing, curling and more besides. For the ladies there is a beauty centre where you can treat yourself to a pampering session and emerge feeling and looking like a superstar, and if you are in search of a touch of culture there is even a museum. Finally, to bring a little Christmas card charm to the picture, in winter you can take a sleigh ride in a horse drawn sleigh and discover Megève the traditional way. In summer, the lush Alpine pastures supply wonderful walking and the backdrop of dark conifer forests complete the postcard effect.

How to get there
To get to the resort from the UK you can fly to any of the eastern airports, including Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon, St Etienne, and Chambéry. Geneva is served by British Airways, Aer Lingus, easyJet, flybe and Jet2; St Etienne by Ryanair; Lyon by Air France, British Airways, easyJet, bmi and bmibaby; Chambéry by flybe and Jet2; and finally Grenoble by Ryanair and easyJet. If you prefer the train, you can take a train all the way to either Bourg St Maurice or Moutiers. If driving, follow the A6 from Paris towards Lyon.

Property prices and availability in and around Megève
This is a swish ski resort in the Alps, so it isn't the cheapest place in France for property! However, Megève offers perhaps more variety of properties than some resorts, with older traditional properties as well as modern apartments and chalets. If you do decide to buy in Megève you will benefit from the very strong rental market there, meaning that you should be able to let your property easily and for a high rate due to the popularity of the resort.
