For buying and selling property in Montriond
Montriond is a ski village that is found in the Haute-Savoie department in the French Alps, close to the well known ski resort of Morzine. The village is picture perfect pretty, having retained all its original Savoyard character and culture, yet has access to the largest ski area in Europe, the Portes du Soleil. It is an ideal base for lovers of winter sports, yet is also delightful in summer, and, being located close to the Swiss border, can also form part of a two-centre holiday.
Montriond is a pretty, typically Savoyard village, unspoiled and set in the most scenic of surroundings. The village church is a lovely centrepiece, reminiscent of a Christmas card in winter, and all basic facilities are provided in and near the main square. You can find a general store for groceries, a post office, Tourist Office, tabac, boulangerie, bars, restaurants (pizzeria, traditional Savoyard and a creperie) and bus stops from where you can catch the bus to various nearby ski resorts. Anyone needing to rent or buy ski, boarding or other sports equipment and clothing will find plenty of shops catering for these requirements.
The après ski in the village itself is fairly restrained, ideal for cosy meals out or a few drinks with friends, but the high life of resorts such as Morzine is only a few minutes away for those who fancy a lively night or two!
Montriond is just a small village, but don't be fooled... your skiing will never be compromised as it has access to the largest ski area in Europe, the Portes du Soleil. The gondola lift at Ardent is very close, and takes you right to the heart of this massive interlinked ski area. The skiing on offer is as varied as can be, with easy slopes for beginners and children, with slopes suitable for all the various levels of expertise and confidence. There are ski and snow boarding schools too, handy not just for novices but also for those who want to brush up their existing skills at the start of a holiday.
In summer, the same lift can be used to access sports such as parapenting, climbing, hill walking and much more. If you are visiting in summer, it is worth noting that there are several excellent golf courses within reach of the village, offering a chance to indulge in this popular pastime while enjoying some of the most dramatic scenery in Europe.
The buzzing and ever popular resort of Morzine is just five minutes away from Montriond, and the lifts and buses take you to interlinking areas from where you can take in several resorts. Switzerland is right on the doorstep if you fancy a change of country!
You can fly direct from the UK to Geneva, Chambéry or Lyon. Geneva is the nearest airport at around a one and a quarter hour's drive. Geneva offers direct flights from the UK with British Airways, EasyJet, Flybe and Jet2; Chambéry is served by Flybe and Jet2; and Lyon is served by British Airways, Air France, Bmi Baby and EasyJet. Fast trains run into Geneva too, as well as Cluses, but if you prefer to take the ferry to Calais and drive the rest of the way yourself, allow about eight hours for the car journey from the port. The village itself lies close to the D902.
You can never say that the ski resorts of the Alps are a cheap place to purchase property because the area has been so popular for many years, but it is possible to find affordable property if you stay away from the best known resorts. Montriond, for example, is more likely to offer reasonably priced property than Morzine, yet is within a stone's throw of the lively resort. At the time of writing, some great building plots are on the market where you could create your own dream home in these glorious surroundings.
