The town of Publier lies in a dream setting on the shores of the beautiful Lake Geneva, surrounded by the mountains of the Alps. Near the famous spa towns of Evian les Bains and Thonon les Bains, Publier was once also a spa, but in recent years has given up this part of its activities and concentrates instead on lakeside tourism and industry.
Publier is a very lively and well equipped town, with a great range of shops, supermarkets, services, schools, medical services and everything you would expect to find in a sophisticated, well developed town. It is also great for dining out, with many excellent restaurants serving different types of cuisine in addition to traditional, delicious Savoyard fare.
The lake is, of course, the defining feature of Publier, and offers not just wonderful views and gives a delightful ambience, but also provides a wealth of activities ranging from fishing, swimming and sailing to relaxing cruises to see the towns and villages around the shoreline of this delightful part of France. The patrimony includes several churches and other religious buildings and monuments, gardens and a rich architectural and natural heritage.
Places worth a visit are the spa towns of Evian les Bains and Thonon les Bains, well known for the quality of their waters and spa treatments. The lovely Alpine villages of the Val d'Abondance are close by too, famed for their cheeses and the sporting stations of the mountains, with skiing and snow sports in winter and hiking, adventure sports and nature tourism in summer. And if you haven't arrived via Geneva, it may be worth remembering that Switzerland is just a short distance away, so you can always pop across the border to experience another country if you have a few hours of leisure time to fill.
You can fly to Geneva which is the closest airport to Publier, with Lyon providing an alternative destination should the schedules suit you better. Chambéry is also another possible option. Should you prefer the train, you can get to Paris by Eurostar, then change to a super fast TGV to travel to Lyon or Grenoble, or take the train to Geneva. Continue to Evian les Bains on local services. Drivers will find Publier from the D11, or from the D1005 lakeside route.
Property in towns such as Publier, on the shores of Lake Geneva, are rarely cheap, but with prices for apartments beginning at just over 200,000 Euros at the time of writing (2011), the dream can become a reality for many house hunters. At the higher end of the market it is possible to find utterly desirable luxury properties with stunning lake views for under 1,000,000 Euros.
