The town of La Côte Saint André was the birthplace and hometown of the famous composer, Hector Berlioz. There is a museum in the town that is dedicated to its illustrious son, in addition to many attractive historic sights and buildings. La Côte Saint André is a market town, and there is always a lively buzz about its streets on Thursday mornings when the stallholders arrive and set out their wares. The atmosphere is further enhanced when you wander into the 13th century market hall which holds the proud record of being one of the biggest of its type in the country. Further historic sights include the 900 year old parish church and a whole host of buildings associated with the life of the Berlioz family. The Berlioz Museum is extremely well known and popular with visitors from far and wide.
The town has plenty of shops, supermarkets, services and restaurants for both convenience and pleasure. It is well equipped with facilities for sports and leisure too, with a superb indoor swimming pool complete with children's area, waterslides, saunas, hammam and jacuzzi. Getting out and about from a base in La Côte Saint André opens up a world of places to go and things to see. The Isère department is dramatic and beautiful. The Alpe d'Huez Mountain is in the vicinity, which is a favourite climb in the Tour de France and also a good ski resort in the snowy winters. Visit the city of Grenoble, or enjoy nature at its most splendid in a selection of wonderful nature parks. Isère has lakes, abbeys and monasteries, archaeological sites and modern day theme parks... something for all the family to enjoy.
Grenoble, Chambéry and Lyon are all good airports for accessing the region by air. You can also travel by rail as the region is served by Eurostar and TGV services. The town is found on the D73 for those who are driving, with the nearest major road being the A48.
Prices can vary, depending on exactly what you want of a property in or near to La Côte Saint André. In general, Isère prices are relatively high, as the area is highly sought after and is close to many popular ski resorts.
