La Plagne – the largest ski area of any single resort in the world
The resort of La Plagne, which lies in the Savoie department of the French Alps, is a popular ski resort which lays claim to having the largest single ski area in the world. It consists of no less than ten villages, but takes the name of the original village, Mâcot La Plagne. (And note that the population given here is that of Mâcot La Plagne.) Due to its superb skiing facilities, the resort is among France's most desired places to purchase mountain property.

Ten different villages... one resort
You have plenty of choice if you want to purchase a property in La Plagne, as there are no less than ten different villages to choose from! You can go for the traditional Savoyard atmosphere of the four old villages, or you can plump for the ease and convenience of the purpose built resorts, of which there are six. The modern, high altitude villages are: Aime la Plagne (2,100m), Belle Plagne (2050m), Plagne Villages Soleil (2050m), Plagne Bellecôte (1930m), Plagne Centre (1970m), Plagne 1800 (1800m). And the older village resorts are: Champagny en Vanoise (1250m), Plagne Montalbert (1350m), Montchavin (1250) and Les Coches (1450m). All have access to fantastic skiing and lifts.

About the villages...
As with most ski villages there is plenty going on at La Plagne. Not only do you have the snow sports, but there are also quad biking facilities, paint ball games, bowling, swimming, squash courts, indoor climbing walls, weight training or fitness gyms and many, many more activities to keep the entire family entertained and busy.

La Plagne doesn't stint on the social side of life either, with a great choice of bars and restaurants around the villages for your "off piste" time! You can find almost any kind of ambience, from quiet and cosy bars with big roaring fires to live music venues and then the flashing lights and pumping beat of the discotheques. Dine out in style too, with all tastes catered for and something to suit all ages, with pizzerias for the kids and fast food for the teens, sitting alongside the elegant cuisine of the traditional French restaurants. Enjoy the distinctive cheese rich cuisine of the Savoyard - at least you can ski off the calories the next day!

Sport in La Plagne
Not only is some of the best skiing in the world on offer here at La Plagne, but also there are opportunities to try bob-sleighing, Nordic skiing, snow shoeing, and even acrobatic freestyle skiing and boarding in the state of the art snow park. Children and beginners are well catered for too, with expert instructors on hand and some easy gentle slopes for learning.

How to get there
If you are flying, the nearest airports are located at Lyon and Geneva. Geneva is served by British Airways, Air France, Aer Lingus, easyJet, flybe and Jet2, while Lyon is served by Air France, British Airways, easyJet and bmi. The ski special train runs direct from England to Bourg St Maurice or Moûtiers, so rail travel is oh so simple.

Property prices and availability in and around La Plagne
It's hard to generalise, as each village and property is different, but bearing in mind that the Alps is not France's cheapest property spot it is still fair to say that there is a good range of property available in La Plagne, and there should be something to suit most pockets. Small apartments and studios are the most economical way of getting a foot on the ski property ladder, but if you want something more expansive then be prepared to dig deeper into your pockets. There are all manner of properties on the market, ranging from beautiful wooden chalet style properties to smart, modern apartment blocks with all mod cons.
