Meribel les Allues - oldest village in the Three Valleys
Meribel les Allues is found in the French Alps in the department of the Savoie. It is the oldest village in the whole of the Three Valleys ski area and forms the traditional heart of this wonderful mountain region. The village makes an ideal location for those who love the mountains and want to enjoy the very best of the skiing and other mountain sports available from Meribel Centre, yet prefer a more peaceful and traditional environment as a base. Travelling to Meribel Centre is easy, with both a Gondola link and a bus. Returning from the slopes is even better, as there is a run which takes you straight back into Meribel les Allues.

Pretty and historic
The village itself is both pretty and historic, with lovely mediaeval buildings and a very traditional Savoyard ambience and culture. There are a few restaurants and bars (although nothing like as many as in Meribel Centre) with at least one of the restaurants being a four star... so think quality rather than quantity! Meribel les Allues has a good little selection of shops, and it is only a ten-minute ride to Meribel Centre for any needs that cannot be met in the village. Outside of the mediaeval centre the buildings are mainly traditional chalet style and form a very attractive picture against the stunning scenery of the mountains.

Fabulous skiing
The skiing is absolutely fabulous... with access to all of the Three Valleys piste and off piste snow, the excellent network of lifts and gondolas, the snow parks and the shops. It doesn't get much better than this! The village has a good number of hire facilities too, so if you don't have all the necessary equipment you can hire it with ease, and there are ski schools, and even a crèche so that you can leave young children in capable hands while you head off to enjoy the slopes.

Summer sports
In the summer, when the mountains are green and lush and your thoughts turn to sports such as rafting, cycling and climbing, rather than skiing, you will find that Meribel les Allues is the perfect place for all this too.
|
How to get there
Possibly the best way to access the village is to take the ski special train to Moutiers or Bourg St Maurice from Waterloo. Out of the ski season you can change at Paris to a TGV which will take you to the same destinations, and from there it is easy to link to the resort. Flying gives you the choice of several airports and airlines, including budget airlines Ryanair and easyJet which help to keep travel costs low. The nearest airports are Geneva (easyJet, British Airways, Aer Lingus, flybe, Jet2), Lyon (easyJet, British Airways, Air France, bmibaby, bmi), Grenoble (easyJet, Ryanair) and Chambéry (flybe, Jet2).

Property prices and availability in and around Meribel les Allues
The Alps are not generally a cheap location for property. However, if you are watching the pennies... or pounds... and have set your heart on a skiing location in the Alps, then it makes sense to buy in a place where the costs are not inflated by over popularity, such as in Meribel itself, or one of the other famous resorts. Meribel les Allues has property that is usually a little cheaper than in Meribel Centre, and for many, the characterful location and more peaceful atmosphere is a bonus rather than a sacrifice!
