French Alps gateway town and more...
Moûtiers or Moutiers is best known as the gateway to the Three Valleys ski resorts in the French Alps. The town's railway station is the destination for the ski special trains which Eurostar run from England throughout the winter season, and the town sees many skiers pass through on their way to the higher slopes.

Historical and attractive town
The town, however, is an interesting and attractive place which has an appealing traditional heart. Historically important as the capital of the Tarentaise, Moûtiers has an abundance of history and culture as well as all the modern amenities which make it a great place to seek a property in France.

On the River Isère
The town is crossed by the River Isère, and this adds to the attractiveness of it centre. Moûtiers has a clearly Savoyard heart, and this distinctive character is evident throughout the town. The many excellent restaurants offer Savoyard delicacies such as polenta and vine leaves... and if you think this sounds more Italian than Savoyard then remind yourself that Italy is not far way. All the shopping facilities you will ever need are found here in town, with everything from chic fashion boutiques to supermarkets available for your use.

What to do in and around Moûtiers
In the town you can visit the Cathedral of St Pierre, and enjoy the traditional architecture of the Grand Rue, Moutier's main street. Unlike many valley towns, Moûtiers does not suffer from a lack of sunlight, and indeed the climate is extremely pleasant, with hot summer sunshine and scenic snow in winter. The leisure facilities in the town are of the highest order, with outdoor and indoor pools, saunas, mini golf, rafting and other white water sports amongst the many activities on offer. There is, of course, access to superb skiing too!

Further exploration of the area can take you higher into the mountains, or you can discover the delights and health benefits of the hot springs in the spa town close to Moûtiers. There are also a variety of festivals held in and close to Moûtiers, with music, art and dance being favoured themes.

How to get there
The best way to reach Moûtiers is undoubtedly by rail, as the town has a railway station which is the ski special destination linked directly to Eurostar from England. If you wish to travel by air, the airports closest to Moûtiers are Chambéry, Lyon St Exupery and Geneva. Chambéry is served by flybe and Jet2, Lyon by Air France, bmibaby, British Airways, easyJet and bmi, and Geneva by British Airways, easyJet, flybe, Jet2 and Aer Lingus. Road travel, although long from the UK, is generally enjoyable as the French road systems are excellent. Moûtiers lies on the RN90.

Property prices an availability in and around Moûtiers
Property in this area is always fairly expensive, but the benefits are huge. There will always be rental market, should you wish to occupy your property for only part of the year, and Alpine property tends to hold its value well. Renovation properties are still available, and these can be a good solution for those on a tighter budget.
