St Martin de Belleville – full of charm and character
St Martin de Belleville, which is found in the bottom of the Belleville Valley in the Alps of eastern France, is not a large town, but it is one which draws back its visitors time after time. It has a real Savoyard charm and character, unlike many purpose built resorts. You will, of course, find all the attributes of a ski resort here, with a lively social scene and shops full of trendy ski and board wear. But underlying and underpinning it all is a real old town with a heart and history.
|
Postcard pretty
The town lies at the bottom of the valley, and its pretty wooden chalets with the mountain backdrop make a heart stoppingly attractive picture in any season. With links to the Three Valleys slopes for serious skiing, St Martin offers excellent snow sports for all levels of ability, and for all ages.
|
Lively aprés ski
The town is known for its lively aprés ski scene. Although there are no nightclubs as such, and the social scene revolves around the bars and even the local Salles des Fêtes, the young and trendy have a wonderful time with the innovative entertainments laid on by the multi national bar owners and seasonal workers. You can try your hand at sumo wrestling in the Brewskis bar, or perhaps a little pillow fighting on a greasy pole sounds like your idea of fun?
|
For the more discerning
Don't worry, if this isn't your scene you can take in the more grown up and chilled atmosphere of the Piano Rock/Bar known as the Pourquoi Pas?. The Yukon Bar has a roaring log fire for added atmosphere, and there are many more to choose from.

Dining out, Savoyard style
The Savoie department has its own very distinctive gourmet style, and there are plenty of opportunities to sample this delicious mountain fare in St Martin de Belleville. The town has a number of excellent restaurants and eateries, with everything from pizzas to fine gourmet dining on offer. Should you be overtaken by hunger whilst out on the slopes, you can even dine at high altitude... there are three chalet-style restaurants at various locations up the mountains!
