Casteljaloux - a bustling market town
Casteljaloux is a bustling and attractive old market town that is located in the Lot et Garonne department of south-west France. Set in a typical Gascon landscape of rolling hills, sunflowers and pretty bastide towns, Casteljaloux makes a great base for exploring this unspoiled and beautiful region.

What's in a name?
The name "Casteljaloux" literally translates as "Castle Jealousy"! Quite how the town achieved this intriguing name is something of a mystery, but if you talk to the townsfolk about it you are bound to be given at least a few ideas... it's up to you which you choose to believe!

Two market squares... and two markets!
There is nothing quite like a French street market for enlivening the senses and making you feel you are truly at the heart of France, and Casteljaloux has wonderful twice weekly markets held in its streets and its two market squares. If there was ever a reason to get out of bed early and to head down town to find the freshest of fruit and vegetables as well as a host of weird and wonderful bric-a-brac, then Casteljaloux's markets held on Tuesdays and Saturdays provide the perfect incentive.

Shopping, dining and other necessities
Casteljaloux is a good sized town, and offers all the usual shops and services. There is also a good spa centre where you can indulge in a pampering treatment or two when you feel the need. Casteljaloux is most notable, however, for its excellent restaurants, so dining out is a great way to relax and really enjoy your French life or holiday. South-west France is renowned for its fabulous gastronomy full of delicious local ingredients such as duck, truffles, cepes, prunes and walnuts. Oh, and don't forget the wine!
