The town of Étables sur Mer is located in the north-west of France, in the lovely region of Brittany. Twice weekly markets
Everyone loves a French street market, and this little town offers not just one weekly market to enjoy but two. Be sure that there will be lots of local goodies on sale, especially locally caught seafood and Breton specialities like crepes, galettes, ciders and the evocatively named "butter cake"... can you resist? There are also craft markets throughout the summer.

What to see in Étables sur Mer
You may like to pay a visit to the Notre Dame de l'Espérance Chapel, which is situated on a cliff top facing the sea, or have a look at an old 15th century cross sculpture or the ancient railway viaduct "the Pourrhis."

Shopping and dining
Like many seaside resorts, Étables sur Mer has a good selection of shops and restaurants at your disposal as well as all the usual small town services you might expect. There are doctors, schools, a post office, various craftsmen and skilled tradesmen registered within the town, all of which help to make your life easier. Nearby are larger towns too, including the "prefecture", or departmental capital of St Brieuc, so if there is anything that you are unable to access in Étables sur Mer you shouldn't have to travel far to find it.

Horse-riding heaven
Étables sur Mer is something of a heaven for horse-riders, as its sandy beaches are perfect for a "free as the wind" gallop. There are excellent riding stables by the town, catering for all abilities and ages, but if horse-riding isn't your bag, there are plenty of other things to do as well. Sailing, swimming, tennis and golf are all easy to find in the area, and walkers and cyclists will discover beautiful trails and paths both on the cliff tops and in the countryside.

Out and about
If you want to explore a little further afield, there is plenty of choice is open to you. The whole of the northern coast of Brittany beckons, and there are many lovely places to visit inland too, so don't confine yourself to the seaside towns. Dinan, with its mediaeval ambience and charm is a "must visit", and there is a lot more to the port town of St Malo than you may think if you are in the habit of getting off the ferry there and driving away without exploring. Take a little time to explore and it may become a favourite destination.

How to get there
The nearest international airport is at Dinard, and you can fly there direct with Ryanair or Aurigny Air. Those who prefer to travel by boat (and it is always good to have a car so that you can easily explore more of this fascinating region) can take a Brittany Ferries ferry to St Malo. Drivers should take the N12 followed by the D786 to Étables sur Mer.

Property prices and availability in and around Étables sur Mer
Brittany is always a popular place for property seekers, so prices are often high, reflecting a strong market. There's an upside to this, however, as in a seaside resort such as Étables sur Mer there will always be a good rental market too, enabling you to recoup some of the costs by renting out your property to holiday makers for all or part of the year.
