A town of half-timbered houses
The town of Lamballe in north-west France dates back to mediaeval times, and has many beautiful historic buildings to delight the eye. The typical Breton half-timbered houses proliferate, and give a real character to the town. Residents of Lamballe lack for nothing, as every need is catered for within the town’s limits. There are banks, shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and schools, so there is no need to leave the town unless you wish to explore the wonderful Breton region on the doorstep.

Stallions and dressage!
Lovers of horses will enjoy a visit to the National Stud Farm which is based here at Lamballe, and which is world famous for its stallions and as a centre of excellence for dressage. Guided tours can be arranged through the local tourist office, and it is recommended that you visit after June, when the full complement of magnificent stallions will be in residence.

A famous market
The town of Lamballe is noted for its exceptional weekly market. Although held on Thursday mornings only, this market is known as one of France’s finest, with people travelling from far and wide to visit it and to enjoy its gastronomic delights. According to locals, something that must be tried here is a local speciality of gallettes with sausages, apparently irresistibly delicious, and also the Breton buckwheat pancakes (crêpes), cider and seafood for which the area is famed.

A lovely Breton landscape
All around the town of Lamballe is a truly picturesque and typical Breton landscape, as varied as it is attractive. There are forests, rolling pastures and lakes, with the fabulous Côtes D’Armor coast only a stone’s throw away. All the usual sporting activities can be accessed from Lamballe, with golf, horse-riding and water sports all close to hand.

How to get there
The town is easily accessed from the UK as it is close both to the ferry port of St Malo and to the airport of Dinard. Air travel to Dinard is economical as low cost airline Ryanair fly there from east Midlands and Stansted airports. There is a TGV line to Lamballe, so it is possible to get a Eurostar to Paris, then a fast train directly to the town. By road, the town lies just off the N176 motorway.
