Perched on Brittany's highest cliffs
The little town of Plouha, despite its name sounding a little like that of a south sea island, is actually found on top of the highest cliffs of northern Brittany, in north-west France. Plouha is a beautiful, unspoiled town, where tradition still holds its sway, and where the ancient Breton culture is still prevalent. You can hear the language spoken by the older folk in the town, and further evidence of this traditional culture is found in the music and dance festivals held here, where Celtic influences are clear and strong.

All needs supplied
Plouha is not the largest of towns, but it does manage to answer most everyday needs. Its shops supply most goods required to keep body and soul together, and there are doctors, banks, post services and hairdressers either found within or near to the town. The weekly market... which takes place on a Wednesday, is also a great place to go for your fruit, veg, cheeses, fashion needs and... well, quite frankly, gossip! They say there is nowhere better to go for a language lesson than the local market... try it and see!

Simple way of life
Plouha is a paradise for those who love fresh air, outdoor pursuits and a simple and tranquil way of life. Not for Plouha the noise and bustle of the big tourist towns, with their everlasting night-life and quick fix routes to entertainment. So if you can see the merit in this (as can so many discerning souls who seek a home in France) then take a look at Plouha. Its natural beauty and pure Breton spirit may just win you over.

Sandy beaches and coastal paths
Plouha has some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in France, with its massive, dramatic cliffs, pretty sandy coves and beaches and abundant wildlife. They say that one of the best ways to access these glorious sights is from the “Sentenier douanier”... the Customs Officers’ inspections path! Try also the GR34, which offers easy and delightful walking and sightseeing.
|
Sports and leisure
Plouha is happy to accommodate many other sporting and leisure activities too, as well as those of walking and shopping. Nearby there are some excellent golf courses, horse-riding centres, tennis courts, swimming facilities and many more local places of interest to visit. These include the Ile de Bréhat and St Brieuc, with the lovely mediaeval town of Dinan also found not far away. The beaches too, are superb, and sailing is a popular pastime here. There is a zoo at Tregomeur, guaranteed to entertain the kids for an hour or two.

How to get there
Reaching Plouha from the UK is really quite easy. You can fly to Dinard, Brest or Rennes with a number of airlines. Dinard is served by Aurigny and Ryanair, Brest by flybe and Ryanair, and Rennes by flybe and Aer Lingus. The ferry port of St Malo is very close, and many of the other northern ferry ports are within reasonable reach of the town, so boat travel is a sensible choice.
