Tinténiac - canal side market town

The little market town of Tinténiac is found in the Ille et Vilaine department of Brittany, not far from the coast and the ferry port of St Malo. With the lovely Ille et Rance Canal running through it, the town is a very popular stopping point for holidaymakers from the canal boats, and also for cyclists who enjoy the flat and safe tow path cycling routes.

Attractive with shops and services

The canal is the dominant feature of the town, although there are several very attractive late mediaeval houses to see as well as a pretty church. As the town is accustomed to holidaymakers from the canal boats and cycle routes, there are several good restaurants and shops to enjoy. For convenience, the supermarket is also an excellent place to stock up on those essentials.

Enjoy the Wednesday market

The weekly market, held every Wednesday, is another possibility for shopping, this time in the old fashioned way. Take a wicker basket, put on your beret at a jaunty angle and hop onto your bike to shop the stalls for fresh produce and local goodies in the most traditional of ways. A string of onions around the neck is optional, though you may find this a good way of getting them home if you have bought some!

Visit mediaeval Dinan

The town enjoys an enviable location, as all of the best attractions of the beautiful Brittany region are close enough for days out, and many are almost on the doorstep. The gorgeous mediaeval town and river port of Dinan is just up the road, and its quaint streets and half-timbered houses will always delight visitors. There are lots of great shops and restaurants too.

Explore St Malo's wonderful beaches

St Malo, the ferry port is also within a short drive, and offers not just the excellent shopping associated with French port towns, but also some really super beaches and resort fun and entertainment. The city of Rennes, capital of the Breton region, is another place not to be missed.

Sports and activities on offer

Meanwhile the countryside around Tinténiac is another delight waiting to be discovered. All manner of sports and activities can be found within just a few kilometres of the town, so whether it is golf, swimming, horse-riding, walking or water sports that float your boat, you won't have to travel far.

How to get there

The nearest airports are found at Rennes and Dinard, while the best ferry port to head for if you want to sail is St Malo. Rennes is served by Flybe and Dinard by Ryanair and Aurigny. If you are driving, you will find the town from the D20, near the D137.

Property prices and availability in and around Tinténiac

This is a desirable part of Brittany, so prices do reflect this with property here being a little pricier than elsewhere in the region. That said, it is still possible to find some lovely properties at quite reasonable prices if you keep a close eye on the market.
