Locminé - a thriving market town

Locminé is a thriving market town that lies in the south of Brittany, in the department of Morbihan. The population is just under 4,000, but the town is extremely well supplied with shops and other facilities, making it an ideal location for anyone seeking a place to settle down to a full-time life in France. Holidaymakers too, can appreciate the amenities of Locminé, and will find many of Brittany's favourite attractions within easy reach.

Colourful, clean and attractive

The overwhelming impression as one enters Locminé is of a town that is loved by its inhabitants. The streets are clean and attractive, made colourful with floral displays in summer, and with the added appeal of a number of houses with traditional mediaeval half-timbered façades, giving an historical feel to the town. The buildings in fact blend old and new to great effect.

Well equipped offering a variety of amenities

Locminé is exceptionally well supplied with shops (including a supermarket), bars, restaurants, services and entertainment. There are schools, doctors, dentists and all the usual necessities of life, and many leisure activities which even include a Ten Pin Bowling establishment, great for keeping kids and teens entertained. There is also a public swimming pool and a cinema. The weekly market takes place on Thursdays, offering a good selection of local foods and a colourful atmosphere.

Visit historic towns

Morbihan is a very desirable holiday destination as it has so many attractions. Of course, these are also accessible on a permanent basis to those who live in the area all year round, with easy access to the towns of Pontivy, known for its beauty and mediaeval ambience, and to Vannes, a gorgeous port city with a great history and heritage. Also worth visiting are the picturesque towns of Josselin and Auray, each with their own charms.

Explore the coast and megalithic sites

The Morbihan beaches, known for being south-facing and sheltered, are easily reached for beach days and seaside fun, and the pretty little islands that lie just off this coast are also great to visit when you fancy a change of scene. Southern Brittany offers a whole host of leisure activities, from discovering the history through visiting historic towns, trips to museums and even to the megalithic sites that Morbihan is renowned for, to the more sporty pursuits of sailing, windsurfing, golf, horse-riding, cycling and tennis.

How to get there

If you want to fly, the airports of Rennes and Dinard are the nearest that offer direct flights from the UK. Rennes is served by Flybe and Dinard by Ryanair and Aurigny. Ferry travel is another option, with the ports of St Malo and Roscoff being the closest. And for drivers the town is easily found from the N24.

Property prices and availability in and around Locminé

Locminé is not the cheapest of Breton towns, (these are rarely found in Morbihan) but it is far from being the most expensive, and it is possible to pick up some excellent properties around the town without breaking the bank. For example, on the market at the time of writing (2011), for less than 200,000 Euros, you can buy a super four-bedroom detached property, accompanied by its own good sized garden, and even a luxury six-bedroom home could cost you less than 300,000 Euros.
