The town of Plouay is known as the cycling capital of the region for a good reason. The town has been placed firmly on the world cycling map by being visited no less than three times by the annual Tour de France, the crème de la crème of cycling road races. In addition, several prestigious cycling events and other races are held here each year. Consequently, cyclists of all levels of skill love to visit the town and to cycle the famous routes. There is even a bicycle museum, which is bound to entertain the kids as well as adults.
Plouay is also a lively town. It has a full complement of shops and services, including restaurants and bars for your relaxation and enjoyment. One thing you will certainly notice about town is that there are a good number of cycling shops offering everything that the cyclist, amateur or experienced, may need. Other than bicycles and races, Plouay offers a castle and park nearby.
All around the town you can find lovely walking and cycling trails, and also horse-riding stables, golf, swimming and fishing lakes and more. It is less than half an hour from the coast, where there are fabulous beaches and peninsulas to discover as well as fun seaside resorts and plenty of entertainment. Visit the city of Vannes, mediaeval Josselin with its beautiful castle, the pretty island of Belle Ile (and several other islands too!) and the fishing port of Lorient. Carnac, with its mysterious standing stones is another well worth seeing.
There are airports at Brest and Dinard which offer direct flights to and from the UK. Brest Airport is served by Ryanair and Flybe, while Dinard is served by Aurigny and Ryanair. If you prefer the ferry, then the nearest ferry ports are at Roscoff and St Malo. If driving you will find the town on the D2. The N165 and N24 are the nearest major roads.
It is quite possible to finds very reasonably priced property in and around Plouay, despite the town's popularity. Currently (2011) in the area, there are some interesting properties on the market for less than 100,000 Euros, putting the dream within reach for most people.
