Saint Amand Montrond – historically important
The town of St Amand Montrond is located in the very heart of France, in the Cher department of the Centre Val de Loire region. Surrounded by marsh land, pasture land and arable land, the town is historically important even though its castle and original fortifications were destroyed in a siege in the 17th century. The site of the town is said to date back to prehistoric times.

The City of Gold
The town is also famous for its gold industry and for its jewellery trade. The centre piece to the town and its pride and joy, is a cultural and business centre called the City of Gold, and in this pyramid-shaped edifice you can access all manner of facilities including a convention hall, an auditorium for theatre and other forms of entertainment, a museum tracing the history of the gold industry, and a tourist centre too...no wonder the townsfolk are proud of their golden city!

St Amand Montrond is a lively town with a vivid social, cultural and sporting life. The town has also been on the itinerary for the Tour de France cycle race. In 2006 St Amand was given the honour of being named the most sporting town in its region. The train is another possibility as there is a SNCF station at St Amand Montrond that has direct links with Paris, so rail travel is a good choice. If you like to bring your own car and travel across the channel on the ferry or the Eurotunnel, it will take you about six or seven hours to reach St Amand Montrond.
