Those who enjoy shopping and dining, two of life’s great pleasures, particularly in France, will love Châtillon-sur-Indre, as the town is well equipped to please on both counts. There is extensive shopping available in and close to the town, with a number of large supermarkets for everyday essentials as well as smaller and more intriguing shops tucked away in the older parts of the town. Then there is the Friday morning market, where you simply have to get out of bed early and join the throng to buy your fresh produce and absorb the atmosphere.

Châtillon-sur-Indre benefits from a superb location in central France. It lies on the edge of the Brenne National Park, which provides beautiful nature trails to delight walkers, cyclists and horse-riders. There is the Grand Randonée, which is part of a network of wonderful waymarked trails that takes you through some of the most beautiful countryside around. There is the Haute Touche animal park to visit nearby, which will fascinate children and adults alike with its massive variety of interesting animals in a forest setting.

Fabulous lakes
Despite being set in the centre of the country, and therefore decidedly inland, beach lovers need not miss out, as there are some fabulous lakes close by which have beaches perfect for lazing away those hot summer afternoons. Of course, you could swim or try windsurfing there too, but perhaps that sounds like too much hard work…!

How to get there
Ryanair, the low cost airline who are extending their network throughout France, have direct flights from the UK into Tours and Poitiers airports, both of which are not far from Châtillon-sur-Indre. Of these, Tours is the closer, at only 62 kilometres distant. There is a TGV station at Tours also, which makes train travel a useful alternative to flying.

Property prices and availability in and around Châtillon-sur-Indre
You would expect that Châtillon-sur-Indre, with its great and accessible central location in France, would be an expensive place to purchase property, but this is not the case. The area, although it has long been popular with the French and Parisians seeking an escape from the city, is not yet well known amongst the foreign market, with the result that it is still possible to find some real bargains here.
