Le Menoux – a charming unspoiled village
If rural peace in lovely countryside is what a home in France is all about for you, you could do far worse than head for the little village of Le Menoux, in the unspoiled landscapes of the Indre department of central France. In a region that has largely escaped the excess of tourist attention that has blighted some parts of France, Le Menoux remains authentic and peaceful, and offers some charming properties and a genuine French way of life.

An amazing church
When you arrive in the village there is one thing you really must do, and that is to pay a visit to the little church. Even if visiting churches is not your usual choice of things to do, this one packs such a surprise behind its ordinary and unassuming exterior that it is well worth an hour or so of your time to go inside. Instead of the usual predictable (if beautiful) religious paintings and statues, the church is decorated with an eye popping sixties inspired psychedelic interior... you may need a pair of sunglasses! Certainly, you will want a camera.

Village amenities
The village is, in essence, small and rural, so there is not a huge array of shops and supermarkets to be found here... although it is easy to access all of these and more in the nearby larger towns of Argenton sur Creuse and Châteauroux. Le Menoux does have a post office, boulangerie and a bar, however, and the fresh baked bread from the boulangerie is said to be particularly delicious.

Out and about
The area is full of beautiful villages, and delightful countryside that is perfect for walking, cycling and horse-riding. There is also superb fishing in its many lakes and rivers. The region has an abundance of chateaux to see as well as a fascinating mediaeval history to discover. Many of the local towns host traditional street markets, with details of the times and days of these available from the local tourist offices. Châteauroux is the beautiful capital city of the Indre, and at only twenty minutes drive from Le Menoux is very easy to access.

How to get there
If you want to travel from the UK by air you have a choice: you can fly to Tours or Poitiers with Ryanair from Stansted, or you can head for Limoges, served by Ryanair and flybe. Train travel is also possible, as the excellent TGV service runs into all three of these cities. Road travel is an excellent choice, as the village lies just minutes away from the A20 motorway.

Property prices and availability in and around Le Menoux
The Indre department is often a good place to find bargain properties, as it is less known to the foreign property market than some of its neighbours. Le Menoux is a popular village, but prices are still reasonable at the time of writing.
