A market town in a lovely setting
The town of le Blanc, in the Indre department of central France, lies alongside the Creuse River in the tranquil countryside of the Val-de-Loire. Le Blanc has two markets each week in the very best of French traditions, with the larger of the two held in the town centre on Saturdays, and the smaller market held every Wednesday. Le Blanc is an attractive town with wide streets and a well-kept feel, and there is a remarkable variety of well-priced property available in and around the town.

A stunning viaduct
It is difficult to think of le Blanc without picturing the huge and impressive brick built viaduct which reaches up in to the skies above the town. This carries the railway over the River Creuse, and some way below it the design is echoed by the road bridge. Below them both, the river flows peacefully by as it has for centuries, the whole scene making a most attractive image.

All mod cons
Le Blanc has its traditional side, as characterised by the markets and the old buildings, but the town has moved with the times and has a modern side to its personality too. New buildings sit happily side by side with the old, and the shops, bars and restaurants bear testimony to this as well. There is little that you need for a comfortable modern life that can’t be found in the town, and you certainly don’t need to leave town to find banks, schools, post offices and similar facilities. There are a number of large supermarkets on the outskirts of town.

Excellent restaurants
The restaurants are worth a special mention here, as the standard of fare and service is really excellent. Take your choice from a good variety, and rest assured that you will have a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience!

Day trips and explorations…
The situation of le Blanc lends itself well to a number of possibilities in terms of days out to explore central France. The town is close to the borders of the Limousin region, and also to Poitou-Charentes, so it is an easy matter to take the one-hour drive to Poitiers, for example, to visit the incredible Futuroscope theme park, or to take a trip south following the course of the Creuse River through the green and lush pasturelands of the Limousin.

Closer to home
A little nearer to le Blanc you can find plenty to occupy you, as there is a superb eighteen-hole golf course nearby at Roche Passay, with an adjacent spa and fitness centre for the ultimate indulgence. Other places of interest locally include the mediaeval city of Loches, with its castle and citadel, the Haute Touche animal park which has hundreds of animals in a forest environment, and Chauvigny, where the spectacular sight of five chateaux, clustered together on a hill top, is illuminated at night.
Le Blanc also has the advantage of being situated close to the National Park of the Brenne, which is known as the “land of a thousand lakes”. Nature lovers will adore the opportunities that this affords them to see rare species of birds and other wildlife, whilst others can simply enjoy the peace and beauty which surrounds them.

How to get there
To reach le Blanc by air you can fly to either Poitiers or Tours with budget airline Ryanair. The TGV train stops at those two towns as well, so you can take this fast pride of French railways from Paris or Lille after disembarking from Eurostar. The ferry ports of Caen and Calais are just four and five hours away respectively, and for those who would drive to le Blanc, the town is not far from the A28 autoroute.

Property prices and availability in and around le Blanc
The town is not yet widely known to foreign buyers, despite its great location, although the French, of course, have known for years that it is an excellent place to live! This means that as yet, property prices remain reasonable, with many bargains to be found.
