Saint Plantaire - artists' inspiration
The pretty little village of St Plantaire is found in the Indre department in central France. Tranquil and set in gorgeous countryside, the area around St Plantaire has been the inspiration for a number of artists, and the village bears testimony to this and acts as a living exhibition for numerous works of art.

A rural idyll
St Plantaire is truly a rural idyll, perfect for that get away residence where you can surround yourself with art and nature and forget about the pressures of life in the UK. All around you is nature at its loveliest, with the beautiful lake of Chambon and the watersports paradise of Lake Eguzon just minutes away. The countryside, known as "bocage" is one of rivers, lakes and meadows, with soft-eyed cattle contentedly grazing, swishing their tails in the sunshine.

Amenities scarce in St Plantaire
Being tiny, St Plantaire doesn't have a lot in the way of shops and amenities within itself, but there are many larger towns and villages on the doorstep that can cater for all your needs. The South Indre is proud of its gastronomy as well as its art, so don't miss the opportunity to try the local fare.

The beauty of stone
The renowned stonemason Michel Fouget has his yard and workshop in the village, and this is certainly worth a visit as Michel is said to be one of the best stone craftsmen in France. Many of his works decorate the village, and these sculptures combine with the colourful floral displays which also characterise St Plantaire, to make a walk around this little village a walk of discovery and pure joy.

Out and about
St Plantaire is a good place to be if you enjoy simple activities in the open air. Walkers revel in the peace and the beauty of the surroundings, and for this reason the area also appeals to horse-riders and cyclists. You can find tennis courts, great fishing, mini golf and canoeing around the village also. There are a number of leisure lakes in the area (notably Lake Eguzon) which are not only good for fishing, swimming and sailing, but which frequently offer other sporting and even dining facilities too.

How to get there
The airports of Limoges and Poitiers are both served by budget airline Ryanair and fly direct from the UK so reaching the area by air is easy. (Limoges is also served by flybe.) The region has TGV stops at Tours and Poitiers for those who prefer to travel by train. Drivers will find easy auto route travel from the ferry ports and the tunnel, and links to all corners of France are excellent. The nearest auto route to St Plantaire is the A20.

Property prices and availability in and around Saint Plantaire
Property prices in Indre are reasonable, with some great bargains on the market at the time of writing. Village houses particularly are a good investment, as are country houses of character with good views.
