A Roman Heritage?

Historians still argue over the true origins of the city. Some say it started out as a Roman camp, although many others say it goes back even further. Despite the fact that the city was burned to the ground in 1152, most of the town since then has been well preserved. In 1424 a castle was built to protect the city, although it was soon transformed into a prison. It now functions as a museum.

Food, Leisure and Sports - Well Provided For

The town has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Its gastronomic delights will also please many of the town's visitors. La Chatre places most pride in its cheese. Although, make sure you are around in Easter to sample the town's seasonal pies.
