La Chatre is a charming town located in the Indre department of the Centre Val De Loire. It has a population of just under 5000 inhabitants. The main industry is tourism.
Historians still argue over the true origins of the city. Some say it started out as a Roman camp, although many others say it goes back even further. Despite the fact that the city was burned to the ground in 1152, most of the town since then has been well preserved. In 1424 a castle was built to protect the city, although it was soon transformed into a prison. It now functions as a museum.
La Chatre is well equipped as a modern town in which to relax and play sports. Tennis and gymnastics are the most popular activities, although the town is also known for it car racing. The town has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Its gastronomic delights will also please many of the town's visitors. La Chatre places most pride in its cheese. Although, make sure you are around in Easter to sample the town's seasonal pies.

Generally, the price of properties in La Chatre is relatively low. It is a great destination for both people seeking a second home and Parisians wanting a place to stay away from the bustle of Paris.
