Langeais - royal connections
The town of Langeais which is found in the centre of France in the Indre-et-Loire department of the Centre Val de Loire region, has a very regal claim to fame. Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany were married in the town's castle in 1491, giving the town an historical importance that remains evident today, and puts it firmly on the tourist trail. The setting of Langeais in the fascinating Touraine region, also adds to its appeal, with fabulous forests, lovely lakes and rushing rivers giving an extra dimension to the expected picture of chateaux and vineyards.
|
Château de Langeais
Château de Langeais was built by Louis XI in the 15th century. It is fascinating both inside and out, with an amazing and important tapestry collection to see as well as period furniture, art and a whole history to discover. This mediaeval castle, with its glorious gardens, crumbling old keep, drawbridge and turrets is straight from a fairytale and will be loved by children and adults alike.

Marvellous monuments
The town of Langeais has plenty of historical monuments to keep the visitors coming back for more. Apart from the chateau, you could take in the town's impressively unusual bridge (a suspension bridge complete with miniature castles), which spans the broad Loire River, or perhaps visit the pretty old Church of St Jean-Baptiste.

Visit any of the fabulous chateaux of the region, wander the depths of the forests and ponder upon the people who walked these paths in times past. Or you could swim or fish in the rivers and lakes, or simply enjoy being in this glorious region of France.
