Gueret, a small town with a population of 15,000, is the departmental capital of Creuse. It is located deep in the heart of rural France.

The town caters well for those who enjoy water sports. It’s nearby lake, the Lac de Courtille, is popular with the town’s residents during summer and is used for swimming and other water activities. The river Creuse flows nearby the town.

Those wishing to stay dry can enjoy the region’s rolling hills, dotted with castles and churches. Gueret remains an interesting and safe town in which to spend a relaxing break.

How to get there
Flying there is no problem as the airport in Limoges has regular direct flights to and from the UK. Alternatively, you could catch the country’s fast and efficient TGV service from Paris.

What are property prices like?
Properties in the region are some of the cheapest in the whole of France and, due to its low crime rate, insurance for both house and car remain exceedingly low. At the time of writing we have a nice cottage with garden in need of restoration for a mere EUR 22,500.
