The resort of Narbonne Plage, which lies some ten miles from the city of Narbonne on the French Mediterranean, is a summer paradise for families and for water sports enthusiasts. For a big city experience you only have to travel about ten miles to reach Narbonne itself, and this fantastic city is a definite “must see”. The city is packed with tradition and culture, and with the beautiful Canal de la Robine running through its centre, it is picturesque too. Narbonne has one of the biggest and best markets in France, so take your shopping basket! Products to look out for at the market include locally produced wines, honey, olive oils (you won’t believe how many varieties there are!), olives, herbs and seafood.

For a life in the open air, Narbonne Plage is just about as good as it gets. The resort has one of the best sailing and water sports schools on the French Med, and there are facilities for children to be kept safe and happy while the parents hone their sailing skills. How to get there
Reaching Narbonne Plage from the UK is remarkably inexpensive and easy, thanks to the budget airlines who serve the local airports. Ryanair flies into Carcassonne, Montpellier, Perpignan and Nîmes. Montpellier is also served by British Airways and GB Airways, Perpignan by bmibaby and flybe, while Toulouse is served by British Airways, bmibaby, easyJet, flybe and bmi. Trains also run to the area, with Narbonne having a TGV station making rail travel all the way from the UK swift and straightforward.

Narbonne Plage has many attractive new build properties situated in “lotissements” (similar to smart housing estates in the UK), and these make perfect “lock up and leave” holiday homes. They are ideal for families as the roads are quiet and for residents use only. Many are rendered with the traditional Provençal pink colour render, and they are attractive and reasonably priced, as well as being very close to the beach and all facilities. Being modern, there is little or no improvement to undertake, and maintenance is minimal.
