Saint Pierre sur Mer – a super beach resort
The resort of St Pierre sur Mer is a small but super beach destination in the south of France. Often overshadowed by its well known and extremely popular neighbour, Narbonne Plage, St Pierre has long sandy beaches that are every bit as good as the better known resort and often less crowded too.
|
Friendly atmosphere
St Pierre sur Mer prides itself on its friendly atmosphere, and is especially welcoming to families. The beaches are perfect for youngsters too, safe and sandy, and there are lots of activities on hand to keep them entertained. During the summer season there is even a little fairground and sometimes a circus sets up in the resort... what more can kids want? St Pierre itself has shops, cafés and a traditional open air weekly market, but for anything else you need you only have to pop a few kilometres along the coast to find Narbonne, with all the facilities that a large town can offer.

Le soir
If there is plenty for the kids during the day in St Pierre, the evenings are for the adults to enjoy. There is often free evening entertainment laid on in the resort, and there are some really lovely restaurants and bars where you can relax and enjoy the great food and wines of the region.

Saint Pierre sur Mer - a sporting paradise
St Pierre is known as something of a sporting paradise, and there are certainly many different and exciting possibilities for those who like to be active. The area offers great swimming and beach sports of course, and there are also opportunities to ride horses, play golf, cycle, sail, windsurf and kite surf.
|
Out and about
There are lots of places nearby that make great destinations for day trips, and the area is full of fascinating history too. See Carcassonne, the fairy tale mediaeval city, or Béziers, with its tragic Cathar story. Take a trip to the wild and beautiful countryside of the Haute Languedoc, and see the spectacular gorges and the mountains of the Pyrénées. There is so much to do and see in this wonderful region that you will never be bored.

How to get there
Reaching St Pierre sur Mer from the UK is remarkably inexpensive and easy, thanks to the budget airlines who serve the local airports. Montpellier and Carcassonne are the nearest airports, Montpellier being served by Ryanair and easyJet, and Carcassonne by Ryanair. Perpignan, Nîmes and Toulouse are also within reach. Perpignan is served by Ryanair, bmibaby and flybe; Nîmes by Ryanair; and Toulouse by British Airways, easyJet, bmi, Jet2 and flybe. Trains also run to the area with Narbonne having a TGV station, making rail travel all the way from the UK swift and simple.

Property prices and availability in and around Saint Pierre sur Mer
Property on the coast and especially on the Med, is often higher in price than that which is found inland, so it is unlikely that you will find very cheap property in St Pierre. However, prices here are certainly lower than in the Côte d'Azur, and you still get the benefits of a great climate and superb... perhaps even better... beaches! Apartments are the most popular type of property, and the most likely to be found on the market at reasonable prices.
