Goudargues - the Venice of the Gard
Goudargues, a peaceful old town that is found in the south of France in the ancient department of the Gard, is often known as the Venice of the Gard, due to its lovely canals that create a cool and pleasant ambience in the town. These canals were created by the monks from the nearby abbey, from the natural spring waters that flow abundantly here. They are a perfect spot beside which you can stop to reflect, or to take lunch at one of the delightful canal side restaurants.

Southern pleasures
All the pleasures of the south are here in Goudargues, and despite being officially located in Languedoc-Roussillon, there is an unmistakeably Provençal feel to the town. The sun-faded stones and paintwork of the houses, the huge towering plane trees providing welcome shade to the ancient dusty streets, all of these add to the delightfully Mediterranean atmosphere and ambience.

The charms of Goudargues
The charms of Goudargues are manifold, and you won't need to spend long in town before you are utterly captivated! The canals, the old streets and houses await your discovery, but also there are good amenities to make life easy and to spare you the hassle of travelling to a large town for the everyday necessities. There is a market held on Wednesdays, and this is as joyful and colourful affair as any French country market, with fresh local produce vying for attention alongside local crafts, clothes and plants. There are good small shops selling all the basic requirements, and even a pizzeria for those informal nights out.
