For buying and selling property in Autignac
Autignac is a lovely calm village, set among the productive vineyards of one of France's oldest wine regions. The area is also blessed with around 300 days of sunshine a year, so there is plenty of opportunity to sit outside, enjoying the sunshine and sipping the wine! The village itself has several 'directe vente' establishments where you can sample and buy the home produced wines. Autignac is tranquil and unspoiled, remaining much as it has for centuries, but it has a bustling village heart with a bar /restaurant/café, a pharmacy, general and food stores, butchers, post office and the all important bakers for your fresh baguettes and croissants! There is also a pretty mill and a 12th century fountain to admire. The old village houses are constructed in original local stone covered with 'crèpe', which is a special type of render, usually creamy yellow in colour, which gives an authentic Languedoc charm.
Almost all things are possible in the towns and countryside around Autignac, as this is a region where you have access to the sea, to the mountains, to ancient cities such as Beziers and Carcassonne, where you can bathe or fish in lakes and rivers, or trawl the shops and markets for broccante (antiques). You can follow the Da Vinci trail, if you are an aficionado of the myth, or even cross the borders to Spain and Andorra! For the active there are many activities which are easily accessible from Autignac, such as cycling, horse-riding and trekking. The even more adventurous may enjoy canyoning (an exhilarating mix of swimming, climbing, diving, jumping and sliding!) in the wild and beautiful gorges of the Haute Languedoc National Park. Of course, with all the sunshine and vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see, you may prefer to simply stay in Autignac, wine glass in hand….
Getting to Autignac is quite easy from the UK. Béziers, Montpellier and Carcassonne are the closest airports, all with direct flights from the UK.
Property in the Hérault is not the cheapest in France, as it is a very desirable area due to its proximity to the Mediterranean, and of course, to the wonderful weather it enjoys! It is, however, still considerably cheaper than neighbouring Côtes D'Azur, and represents a good investment as property here continues to rise each year. There is a rich variety of property on offer here too, ranging from wine domains to new build luxury villas to old stone cottages. Take your pick… but don't miss out!
