For buying and selling property in Faugères
Faugères is a village lying in the Hérault department of southern France, which gives its name to one of the region's most respected wine appellations. Small and unspoiled, Faugères bakes under the summer sun as it has done for centuries. You can sense its history in the very stones that make up the ancient houses of this pretty village.
Faugères is small, but has shops and cafés and most basic amenities. There is a good restaurant, and it goes without saying that there are wine caves and cooperatives nearby where you can sample the wonderful deep red wine of the Faugères appellation. Don't expect a raving night life in Faugères, though. One of the most charming things about the village is that it has retained its peaceful and unspoiled air!
Faugères lies close enough to the cities of Béziers and Carcassonne to make a trip into a large town simple, for those days when you need to do some "big town shopping" or want a visit to the cinema, the theatre or perhaps to explore the Cathar history of the region in the museums and the old quarters of the towns.
For those who know the Stanley Holloway poem, Faugères certainly isn't Blackpool, but it does offer plenty of fresh air and fun nevertheless... although of a rather different type! The village has tennis courts, petanque courts and some wonderful walking trails, up and around the old windmill and through the vineyards. It doesn't take long to reach the gorgeous beaches of the Med either, with all the water sports that are on offer there, or head inland to the dramatic gorges with their white water sports and canyoning to experience.
There are plenty of airports near Faugères which have direct flights from the UK. These include Montpellier, Carcassonne and Perpignan. Montpellier is served by GB Airways and Ryanair; Carcassonne by Ryanair; and Perpignan by Ryanair and bmibaby. Rail travel is also a good option, as you can take the Eurostar from England to Paris, then change to a TGV and travel in comfort to Montpellier or Toulouse.
The Hérault is perhaps a little more expensive than the Aude, but less so than neighbour Provence, just to its east. Faugères offers a selection of property types, with some luxurious modern villas being built on the outskirts of the village, but having a predominantly old centre, with ancient stone village houses still proving very popular with British buyers who appreciate the character and history.
