For buying and selling property in Palavas les Flots
The town and seaside resort of Palavas les Flots is something of a water wonderland as among its attractions are the Mediterranean Sea, the Rhone Sète Canal and the lovely salt lagoons that are such a delightful and distinctive feature of this part of the southern coast of France. The town grew up as a fishing port, but is now mostly concerned with tourism, although the old port still exists and operates.
The older parts of town offer up some sights worth a mention, led perhaps by the old fishing port which is always an attraction for visitors to the resort. See too the water tower that now sports a revolving top section housing a great restaurant, a couple of good museums and of course, the beaches and the etangs (salt lagoons).
The resort has up to date facilities for tourism (lots of seafood restaurants and ice cream parlours) and also excellent shops to explore and enjoy. Various entertainment and activities can be found for all ages, with one of the more unusual and fun being the little chair lift across the canal. The beaches are excellent quality and make this one of the region's most popular seaside destinations.
Montpellier is just a few kilometres away from Palavas les Flots, and is one of the Languedoc's most celebrated cities. Set aside at least a full day to explore the city as there is an embarrassment of sights, cultural venues, shops and restaurants to discover. A little to the east is the marshy region of the Camargue, known for its white horses, black bulls and, less appealingly, its savage mosquitoes… do visit, but make sure to take plenty of insect repellent in hot or damp weather! The gorgeous fortified town of Aigues Mortes is a must see in the area.
Sports and leisure activities are plentiful, with sailing, swimming and beach games at the seaside and many more such as walking, cycling, horse-riding and golf found close to the town.
Montpellier has the nearest airport, but other possibilities include Béziers and Nîmes, and even Marseille and Carcassonne. Montpellier is served by easyJet, Ryanair and Bmibaby; Béziers by Ryanair and Flybe; and Nîmes by Ryanair. Montpellier, which is only six kilometres away, is also on a TGV route from Paris, so train travel is another contender. If driving, the main A9 auto route will get you close to the town which is found on the coast road.
